lost my 7 on friday the 13th

ok well i totalled my fd on the way home from work last night
i fell asleep ran off the road then i woke up tried to get back on the road but the back wheels started coming around on me . then the car shot across the road at somepoint went air born flipped on its roof and i hit a tree mid air . then it slid down the tree and down the side of a steep embankment when i came to i was hanging halfway out of the car with my leggs pinned under the wheel . now i was going 65mph with the cruise on when all this happend and from the looks of my crumpled baby i was exteamly luck to have only sustained minor cuts and bruises
ill post some pics once i go over to the tow yard

Sorry for the lost.

Fell asleep behind a wheel of a FD is pretty hard to do...you must have been very tired.

That sux man. It's always better to walk away from an accident. Oh well, that makes our FD's much more rare. Hope all is well and get your hands on another one.

Thats why cruise control is bad when your tired. If you didn't have it on and you fell as sleep chances are you would of slowed down rather than kept going the same speed. Either way that sucks.

That's a very good point. Who uses cruise control on an RX-7 anyway, unless maybe it's an automatic? I really don't see the point. The only time I've ever used it on my manual transmission car is to make sure that it actually works. But it's always seemed kind of pointless to me.

Anyway, yeah, you were damn lucky in that accident. Forget the loss of the car. Consider what you could have lost physically, besides your life, that is. A car is completely incidental when you could have been disfigured or paralyzed for the rest of your life.

I'm still not clear on exactly what happened. What wheel were you pinned under, steering wheel or tire? And how did you get out of the wreck?

I like my cruise control, and have a 5 speed tranny. I would use it more often if I took any kind of long trips with the car.

The point, of course, is to keep the car at a constant rate of speed. I use it to avoid slowly creeping up to 80-90 mph, which the car easily does almost on its own.

I personally wouldn't worry about the car... I would be grateful to be alive, and take that as a lesson to make sure I'm well rested before driving... and that if I am tired, to just pull off the road somewhere safe, lock the doors, and get some rest... either that, or get out and walk around a bit or something to wake myself up.

from what you described, you're actually EXTREMELY lucky, eh?

Glad you're o.k. bro. You can always replace the car but not your life. I'm not a fan of the cruise control. You escalated the situation by using it when you were tired! Man, God spared your life!
I've been in many tired and driving situations. The worst one was when I was driving back from D.C. to a friend's in Maryland. I started seeing people walking across the highway! It was scary! There was a couple other cars with me and the only way we made it back was to race each other. Driving like that and moving in and out of lanes got the blood pumping and kept us busy.

I don't see how you could possibly determine my speed from as far back as you were

So, it's kind of like a mechanical "stop me before I kill again" for you. :-)
I guess I just have more self control than you.

But seriously folks, with a manual trans, cruise control borders on the silly.
With an auto, maybe.....but only maybe.

With the FD you have a car that approaches the ulitmate in terms of driver involvement and control, so to give up control of the throttle to a mechanical device, again I don't see the point. It's kind of like sending in your stunt double to make love to your girlfriend.
