wow I was suprised how many under 25 people own these cars. I am turining 21 in 2 days and I got mine after I graduated from highschool. I went on to be an aerospace engineer at RPI in upstate NY, but that didnt work out so now Im going to school at embry riddle to become a pilot of some sort. I got my CYM R1 in FL with 28k miles on it and it now has 62k on it, but they were fun miles hehe. anyway if you parents are paying for school, get an on the side job and you should be able to pay for all the upkeep your new baby will need. also learn to do a lot of the work yourself. the most complicated thig I have done was change my plugs and plug wires :p although I have ATTEMPTED more lol. peace, enjoy the 7

But being "old" allowed me to get my FD in May of 1993.

 

I suppose hard work pays off. I seem to be a member of the 20 year old majority, though I don't have an FD, yet. (Right now I'm shopping for a 94 or 95).

Last night I realized that if I hadn't spent 10 grand on computers & electronic parts over the past 4 years I'd have had the Fd for over a year. (Worked hard since I was 12) But the experience should pay off when I start working on the FD, since I am very comfortable with machine coding in binary or hex. (An EE student to throw in the mix)

Heh. When i was 18 I also fell in love with the FD, though I haven't owned a car yet. To answer your question, I've thrown newspapers, was a janitor, moved boxes for a law firm, wrote code for two IT companies, and worked in construction. And that's in addition to the shareware I develop.
It also helps to be stingy.

 

Im 18, turning 19 in a couple of months, ill be getting my second FD i totaled mine on the highway right after it rained....... that was when i was a junior in high school havent had a car since......(car less for about 2 years now) but the new FD im getting is gonna have 2mm Ceramic IANETTI seals, with a mild street port but ive always loved the 7 my brother's had his for 4 or 5 years now. but i know there are a lot of kids getting FD's now. its not that expensive compared to a supra, and a 3000gt VR4. So dont be so suprized people

 

37. I also can't believe so many so young own these cars. You guys must spend all your money on these things(or make a lot). I could have bought one new in '93 but bought a house instead (and kept my '86 GXL). Bought mine a couple of years ago.

 

Not really rich, im more or less, decdicated. I've been saving nickles and dimes since i learned to count (originally for a Supra TT). Now, every check i get goes to the loan i took out to get the car (a whopping 1,500), and the car insurance; which is 335 a month, soon to go up bc i switched from AllState to StateFarm.

I only get like 150 a month to play with, and 1/2 of that goes to the gas tank

 

... at 44 y.o., but not anything so bad that hard liquor can't keep in check.

 

Well, this "how old are you" thread goes around about every 2-3 months. Every time it does it gives me more gray hair. I just turned 57 on Dec 6th. I'm on my fourth RX-7, second wife, third dog, third house and second childhood. I drove British sports cars thru college and graduate school- wish the RX-7 would have been around in the 60's. Everyone is concerned about the reliability of the FD. Compared to the Triumphs and MGs I drove, the FD is practically immortal and is sure more fun to drive. I think that is the common bond in RX-7 owners. These cars are just flat out fun to drive. I have a BMW 540 that I got about two years ago, thinking it would be "sporty" enough to keep my attention. The damn thing sits in the garage gathering dust. I keep coming back to the RX-7. It must be some kind of automotive addiction the Japanese are using as revenge for WWII.

 

I hear ya! lol, the cars, and Sushi. Damn, if i werent a sushi chef, id be paying soooo much every day for food. . . .

I'm 54, and I'll turn 55 next week. hopefully. Damn, if it weren't for you, Ronarndt, I would feel old. I raced a 1st gen RX7 in SCCA national showroom stock racing from 80-82, and too many other cars between 73 and 88. My FD meets most of my current need for speed.

im 18. i just got my fd about a week ago for my birthday . Ive been wanting one for about 2 years now and my dad finally came through.

 

21 years old here. Just bought my first FD sixth months ago. Love every minute I drive it. I'm sure I'll miss it while the motor is getting rebuilt at KD while I'm down here in FL. Had an 87 n/a in HS. Wish I had an FD although I would never have been able to afford it. I'd probably would've rapped it around a tree in HS the way I drove my FC. And not to mention all the other stupid things I've done. Good luck to you all. Most of the FD owners I've met are all older.

 

umm got my FD when was barely 19 now 20....... but i have a 89 gtu for daily driver since my car has been inoperable since purchase(goddamn previous owner needed a beating)....

 

23 and in med. school---drove a minivan in high school. I hope that most of you high school kids shoot high and not settle for some easy life just so you can pay for your car.

I am 41. My FD is one of 3 cars. I can't imagine having this as the only car. I agree with the previous post, if you can't afford a lot of $s then don't mod it. Have fun!!

 

24 here, moving onto 25 soon. Bought my '93 R1 almost two years ago. About two years after graduating college (and joining corporate America), I realized that I *needed* a sports car. Surveyed the market in my price-range and settled on an FD. After four months of searching, found *the* one!

My plan is to get as much time on road-courses as possible, in an attempt to slow down on the street...... TOO many tickets already.....

I'll second what someone else already said - one of the best upgrades for an FD is a second car, which you can drive in rain/snow, into the city, etc.

I got my 86 (first car) when I was 17 and just got the 93 almost exactly a year ago when I was 21.

I graduated in May of this year and currently work for a small investment banking boutique in SF.

 

37 in 20 days. I have been piston free since 1984. I currently have my 94 BB and a 90 GXL (with 57k). This makes 5 RX-7s total.

Well a couple of guys got me. 53, but also an original owner. Got my FD on Aug. 31, 1992.

 

I am 16 and my car will be done i a few months. Its a 1993 VR R1 with black. I bought the car wrecked "no salvage Title" and my father manages a auto body shop and we are rebuilding the car. Currently i have a 1985 RX7 GSL it was $500 at the towing auction next to my dada work

 

I'm 33, bought my 93 R1 a couple weeks after my 30th B-day, early mid-life crisis I guess. I bought my first RX7 in 1990, it was an 87 Sport pkg. Total lifetime RX7 ownership is 5 FCs, 7 FDs and 1 FB.

I have a 20 month old daughter and I can see why there are not a lot of people my age with these cars, having it sit in the garage week after week is frustrating, no room for a baby seat.

I totally agree Toadman, I'm 33 now and have had my 93 Silver Touring for five years. I dreamed about buying one for 3 years prior to that.... All these 'teenagers' driving 3rd gens ROCK!

I couldn't imagine having my car when I was 18, much less afford the $10k in mods and repairs!!! Have fun boys!!!
