FL dreaded smoke

my engine feels like it running really strong but on start up it smokes i know that normal. once i go under boost it seems to clear it out and it doesnt smoke at all while i drive then when i stop at a light for a few minutes it starts smoking again but sometimes it doesnt. do u think the apex seals are going its a fairly new engine and it runs rich as hell.and it doesnt seem to burn too much oil. i also recently tried turnning it from synthetic to convential and then through stupidity mixed the different weights thats when this problem seemed to happen. im back on synthetic but its still doing it maybe not as bad but still i cant afford a rebuild. any thought?

Might be oil control rings at start-up. Are you pre-mixing?

nah this only happens at idle its never smokes while driving but it has been breaking up on top end i think its because i havent changed my plugs in a while. this might explain the hick ups and extreme unburnt fuel but still the smoke at idle is what scares me.

Could be turbos too. Don't think that switching from Syn to Dino oils would make a difference on oil control seals (both turbo and engine) but it might have. Our cars are getting old and temperamental. Could just be the fact that the turbos are old.

If the smoke is intermittent, let it ride. If it gets worse, figure it out from there. Regardless of whether it's turbos or engine, it can't be easily fixed so you might as well just stretch it as long as you can.

Where are your vents on the oil injectors connected? They should be vented to the atmosphere.

Sounds like a rich condition or typical turbo smoke

I had this problem for awhile and it was my idle tune. Played with it for awhile and fixed it (Power FC). I thought it was the turbos going out but was very relieved to be wrong.

It smelt and looked like oil smoke but I fixed it with a little fuel tweaking so I guess it's just the OMP injects a set amount of oil and depending on your idle tune it can lead to oil smoke @ idle ONLY. Just my theory because when I richened up the mixture (~0.5 AFR) it cleared the smoke away immediately.

The huge smoke clouds that I would produce at stop lights was rather amusing at first. People would yell that my car was on fire or look around frantically thinking their car was on fire. I had some mechanics tell me my piston rings were FRIED! I told em I just had the heads done and was PISSED my rings were gone already! I played with em for awhile about the cam profile and how the heads flowed great after being machined but eventually told em it's just the oil injectors. They looked so confused lol... After awhile it was just more of a nuisance than anything...

It's getting late so this might be a bit confusing. Off to bed...

Mine was smoking (blue) more than I liked - afgmoto1978 cleaned up some injector spikes under vacuum, greatly reducing the smoke.

I checked the turbo it is a t78 about a year old I bought it brand new and it seems fine looks clean inside. It's running so rich it burns peoples eyes when the drive behind me. Where is that injector vent? I have an after market fuel system it's not stock.

The oil injectors on the housings have a vent on the top of each one. Many people mistakenly attach them to the manifold which creates a vacuum at idle and the resulting smoking.
You can use two of the small filters used on the solenoids instead of the usual hoses to the intake filter area.

I have a question why do you only use two of the solenoids small filters if there are 4 oil injectors total?

Here is a pic and yes you do have to remove the UIM to get to them.

That's because there are only 2 omp injectors on an FD

the pic above looks like it is from a series 4 FC. The FD does not have the LIM injectors, just the rotor housing injectors.
