Everything you need is in post #7. For the Luxeon leds, you need a total of 6, or 3 per side. You need 4 red leds and 2 amber ones. For each side 2 of the red leds are used for the brake lights and 1 of the orange leds is used for the turn signal.

So I finally go around to doing this. I ordered all the parts that David recommended and now have to wait for them to arrive. I tried using the Dremel tool to cut out the acrylic rings, but they didn't come out very well. Luckily I have access to a CNC machine, so I'm going to use that approach instead. I'll post pictures if I remember.

Just checking in, tail lights are still going strong from back when I did this conversion. Time flies, holy crap...

 

Finally got a chance to cut the acrylic rings.

So 7 years later. Can we see some videos? More pics? Are the parts in post #7 still relevant or are they superseded?

 

^ The taillights are doing great, seven years later. I'd say that is a testimony to the design and materials used. The only thing I have done to them since originally building them is to add on a turn signal sequencer effect (like the Mustang lights work). Other than that, they've been reliable and a great addition.

As for videos, they look the same, so see the videos and pics I posted when I first did the thread. Regarding the parts used, I did a quick review of what I used and I think the parts are still available and I'd use them again.

 

Mine are also going great. Only thing Ive done is the flasher mod to the FD oem flasher PCB. I also removed resisters.
