Cooling fans

I currently have two 12" fans on my aftermarket radiator and they don't seem to be doing the job. When they kick on they don't turn off. That's at idle. When I have my AC on my temps start to rise at low speeds. If on the highway doing 60+ mph, then temps even out. I even put foam in open areas by the radiator to keep the flow in the right area. My assumption is that they don't pull the right amount of CFMs.
Unfortunately the Oem fans don't fit so I have to look for aftermarket fans.
Through research I came across these.

Any thoughts?

Stick to SPAL fans but i am willing to bet that your shroud is your problem. How did you mount them on?

I had the same exact issue when i had my fans mounted like this. I made a shroud for the fans to fit on with a proper shroud and the problem was gone

Thanks for the post. We're you successful with the 844 cfm fans?

i did not end up doing the switch as i had other overheating related problems . Now that this is solved i am planning on putting the 844 back on in the near future.

bare in mind, what SPAL claims to be 844 cfm does not mean that it is the same with other brands. The unit of measure from other companies does not even come close to reality

It looks like one. If it is then the stock fans fit on it. You just have to trim the shroud in a few areas to clear. The stock fans have shown to be overall the best solution. Absolutely there are other fans that will work..... with work but the stock fans always come out on top. I would suggest comparing the dimensions to the one on the cx racing website and verify.

There aren't aren't many if any on the market that look like the cx racing one so I would bet it is. We use them a lot with out v mount kits and the stock fans fit 100% and we end up with over cooling in most cases. Seeing 85c water temps on the highway in the middle of florida summer is pretty cool

What size are those 844 cfm fans? I only have room for 12" fans.

So I checked and it appears to be the same CX radiator. My issue would be ground
clearance. The oem fans are thicker which I'm afraid of catching them on something.
I'm going to go the fan shroud route and see how it improves with the fans I have.

I don't know if this would help, but when I did a RX8 fan upgrade using the stock RX7 shroud on my Fluidyne radiator, the thickness cause some problems also when trying to mount my then new aftermarket SMIC (which was taller the most). I was able to use a Dremel tool all the way around to shave around 1" and maybe more or less (I don't remember for sure) from the lower edge of the stock shroud, which lowered the profile on the shroud/radiator. This may work for you for your undermounted radiator if you only need 1" or so to make the clearance you need. The RX8 fans move more air than the stock and are available used and maybe even new? I believe the RX8 motors are slightly flatter too, which would improve clearance.

Thanks Mike. I'll have to look into that option. Any year of the rx8?

with the stock fans, the ground clearance is fine. The bottom of the radiator is above the sway bar. Of course it depends on how you mount it. If it's possible, adjust the position of the radiator.

The shroud idea would be phenomenal but looking at the build thread, quite a bit of work went into making that. Seems about equivalent if not more than repositioning the radiator and fitting stock fans. Pick your battle

Thanks. I will have to see about repositioning the radiator because of fixed hose positions. Also if I can find a inexpensive set of oem fans.

Two different threads help explain the years for the RX8 fans and the blade differences. Even if using the stock shroud cut or uncut, I would still consider the RX8 motors/blades since they are an improvement on air flow and draw less amperage. There is also a video out there that measured the airflow differences.

Revisiting this again. The car has been on the back burner since orinally posted.
Does anyone know the FD shroud size? The radiator I have is 25.3/8" wide by 12" (fin area)

I picked up an oem Rx8 shroud/fan but the dimensions are 26.1/4" x 14" O. D.
