Boost Brain Buster

O.K. Gents/Ladies,

Let me pick you brains...I have a 93 Rx7 w / 80,000 miles stock with minor mods. DP, CB, PFs intercooler, Supra fuel Pump and PMC purple computer etc.

I was driving the car doing 17psi boost as always do for 2 years now. All of a sudden I heard a blast of air like a hose had blown off. Checked it and it was the outlet nipple on the primary turbo. It has 2 nipples to read pressure which a vacuum line/pill goes to, coming from the primary turbo`s wastegate and the other one goes to the secondaries I guess.

Re-insert the nipple and added a little JB Weld to keep it secure...TEST DROVE THE CAR AND NOW INSTEAD OF 17PSI LIKE BEFORE ALL I SEE IS 8PSI.

Please advise if you familar with this problem.

Thanks,
Andre

Your symptoms point to a MAJOR boost leak, not just a nipple blowing off. Recheck all the couplers, etc. Actually remove and inspect them. Sometimes tears are hard to see.

I'd recheck your jbweld job, also look very carefully for splits in the couplers.

And you are running 17psi on stock injectors??? And your motor has lasted for 2 years?? Crazy!

if you lost the pill in the wg hose, likely limited to 8 psi.

17 psi on stock turbos, in Florida ... that's some hot charge air. 2 years of good luck.

If you mean that performance is normal and just the gauge is off, then maybe your weld job has partially blocked the fitting; meaning your engine is still seeing normal (?) 17 psi but the gauge is only seeing the 8 psi.

Hose to the WG solenoid near the Intake plenum has blown off will cause you to only boost at 8psi.

Past weekend I did the complete boost leak test from Y-pipe, couplers, throttlebody, turbo actuator and solenoids etc. All tested O.K.

I cannot understand it myself the pills are not present in both lines (Wastegate or turbo pre-controll) I don`t know if something was sticking from before enabling me to run 17 psi boost..However, I continue to check to see what else could have gone wrong.

If I want to run 12 to 15 psi boost what size holley jet s do I need to install in each line?

Please advise.

Thanks,
Andre

the restriction could have been in the nipple...when it broke, the "built in pill" left the bay.

if its the small smic IC you could have blown out a press in nut plate thing...and leak boost right off the IC...should be able to make more than 8psi though...at least I did with a single.

Good call! Some sets of turbos had the pills built into the nipples instead of in the lines, but if he jb-welded the original nipple back the "pill" should still be there.
