Allright, I got my FD

Some of you have seen some of the details.

94 R2, 7500 miles (now almost 7800).

I got it Tuesday.

2 problems so far. The Engine Check light came on. I went to MazdaMax outside of Houston. It is the EGR valve. Also, they informed me that I have a freon leak, and the system is now empty. Lovely to have in TX at this time of year.

I have 12 quarts of Red Line coming. I have observerved numerous discussions of about Synthetic.

Negatives posted are

1) Excess carbon build up, because oil is used as a lubricant in the engine.

2) Various Mazda warning, counterpointed with mention of a specific synthetic that had bad testing results at Mazda.

I have 3 mods on the car. Intake, exhaust and underdrive pulleys. Downpipe will make 4.

The car was reported to hit 14 lbs under boost by the previous owner,

I now believe from what I have read that I'd better upgrade the electronics.

Man. What a heat box. The precat does a really good job of baking as well, heat coming through the firewall and the footwell. I assume the downpipe mod will assist with that.

Yes, the mileage is that low. I paid 29K for it.

Here is the original auction.

Here are some more photos.

Here are the dyno sheets. Mods are Pettit exhaust, intake, power pulley, AST and short throw shifter.

Congratulations on your sweet FD. Definitely upgrade your ECU and get the downpipe and hi-flo cat or mid pipe as well, but only after upgrading your ECU. Car looks sweet, but with only 7500 miles, why was the clutch replaced? Just curious. I would also have the coolant system checked, since the scorching Texas summer can kill your new purchase. Keep us informed as you mod your car, and congratulations again!

First things you should do, change your oil and flush your coolant. Then make sure all other fluids are okay. Congratulations on the new FD!

Welcome
on the second chart looks like you hit a BOOST cut (stock ecu cuts fuel off when boost hits 12.8 or so psi) and I Knew from my BUTT DYNO that an open airbox made a big diff but 50-100 HP wow! even for only open airbox & Cat Back it is doing good (exaust should be good for 30-40 hp , air box another 15-20) throw a DP in the mix and then I can believe 300hp- but with stock Cat & PreCat 300rwhp is really strong. are you sure you didn't get a reprogramed ecu in the deal also?

Pardon me, I was using under boost as in "under acceleration". I think he meant it hit 14.

I did see 12 today though.

One thing I hear (when I have the windows down), is a little whoosh when I upshift if I am pushing it. I assume this is the wastegate dumping the pressure because the turbos start to spool up again?

The whoosh is actually the charge relief (blowoff) valve letting the compresser surge out. You can't hear the wastegate opening.

Uh, or you are FOS...

My FD, with just downpipe and catback was spiking at 15 psi on cold nights. Stock ECU, never hit fuel cut, didn't even lean out that much...in 4th gear no less!

edit: oops, I forgot my cat was gutted as well...

I don't know. I should call the original owner, to check if the ECU was changed and ask about the clutch.

I will take care of the EGR, because I don't want that annoying light bothering me, and if something else goes wrong I need to know about, I will see it.
