help please flywheel removal

i got the engine out of the car ok and now i cant get the flywheel off. I got that big *** bolt off with a little work, but now the clutch acts like its pressured on to the shaft. I tried banging on it and prying but dont want to hurt it. What can i do. Thanks Marc

You removed the big *** 2 1/8"/54mm bolt right? After that it should just slide off. You said you can't get the clutch cover/clutch off either? You remove all the bolts out of the clutch cover, 6 small bolts I think. Sorry for the dumb questions but I always remove the clutch before removing the flywheel bolt/flywheel.

yep did all that and still nothing. It wont even pry off. I tried banging on all the sides of it and still no luck. Yep the clutch cover is gone and and the bolt that will exspose that flywheel. They show a puller in the wprkshop manual. I think i found someone who has it in co. Is there anytihng else i can try to do ot get it off.

this is going to sound crude but it works and causes no damage:
get yourself a 'soft' heavy mallet and whop the **** out of the left side and than the right side. the FW is taper locked to the e shaft and unless you get a puller this is the only way to get it off. good luck

I popped off my flywheel in about 15 minutes. I used a wood splitting wedge, metal, and rubber hammers. First thing I did was put the main bolt back on the shaft to protect myself from the flywheel. Next I inserted the wedge in quarters around the wheel, example at 12:00, 12:15, 12:30, 12:45 and back. I tapped the wedge in until it was tight and gave a little pressure between the black and flywheel. Enought pressure that I had to hit the wedge with the hammer one time to loosen it. Once the wedge is tight. Go around the flywheel and hit the outsides with the rubber hammer kinda hard. I just went in a circle. Once you have completed the circle hit the ecentric shaft with the metal hammer. Not very hard but not real soft - just a decent hit. Do this 3-5 times. Rotate to the 12:15 position and repeat. By the time I got to 12:45 position the wheel flew off on my first hit of the e-shaft. Hope this helps.

When I replaced my clutch I could have put on a new flywheel. Whydid you take the whole engine out instead of just dropping the trans? Did you have other engine work to do?
