Red face What have you done to your exaust?

Allright, I know a lot of you people like the RB Exaust System, but how many of you are just trying to keep your existing one working just because you're cheap/pour like I am.

Or did you just pull the entire exaust off and be done with it.

btw, just found out that my muffler's hanging off by it's hook only, seems it finnaly gave up trying to stay up there... Oh and I also have the pipe coming from my cat to the muffler held together w/ some mechanic's wire and some JB Weld...

Find a used RB Pre-Silencer, and add a Flowmaster to it. Sounds real good. I went for the Borla Muffler, but the Flowmaster was on it first.

Have long primaries, two resonators and a high flow muffler.

Loud at WOT, gotta love the bridgeport. Too bad the carb flooded beyond belief, time for a rebuild.

I ripped out my thermal reactor on my 79 and replaced it with a RB header and straight pipe.

I was hoping for a nice loud exhaust but its buzzy only during acceleration and dead quiet the rest.

I have the the RB header/mini Presilencer to a Magnaflow 2.25 inlet dual outlet exhaust with 2.5 inch tips. Looks like stock, only shiney.

Here's how it sounds:

I'll post some pics Sunday of what it took to quiet down my '80 RP streetport so you could talk at idle but still kick out 135 HP at the flywheel with a stock Nikki...

Ill vouch for the RB muffler being able to take some punishment. And just because theyre quiet, they arent as restrictive as people think.I run a 3" stainless system into a RB streetport muffler(the 81-82 twin inlet model). The down pipe, cat and internal pipes of the muffler glow dull red during normal driving and get a nice orange after a hard bit of running. The muffler(and my Bonez cat) have both survived and show no signs of failure after 3 years. And unlike almost every other uncorked rotary its QUIET,just the way I like it.
Not stock quiet, but your more likely to hear the turbo and intake than the exhaust note. And before you say anything, its not the turbo or even the cat that makes it quiet.I have used a RB TII presilencer and an Edelbrock straight through as my primary muffler for the track and its very loud with either of them. The RB streetport is also a straight through but it has a lot more packing and very solid construction so its quiet.Down side, weight and cost......but it will last forever so its worth it.

*sigh* Suppose I have to say it. I've got the entire RB streetport setup. Sounds bad *** at anything above 1/2 throttle. Below, it's docile and not too loud, but it sure ain't quiet by any standards.

BTW, I didn't fork over the $800 bucks, it was on the stock 12a before I bought it. But now I got a street port 12a.

I put an exhaust on my car that is loud beyond all reasonable doubt. I'm currently "finding" a way to repair my transmission and then maybe just maybe throw a magnaflow onto it. But untill then I'll just sound like I'm doing 800mph. I'm, if not, just as loud as..hmmmm.....what is louder......gosh man tell you the truth I can't think of a damn thing. OH WAIT! A NHRA top fuel dragster.

On another note, I've heard many stories from people who used to race against rx7s in the big leagues, if you know what I mean. They told me that officicals banned rx7s without mufflers, some type of silencing device. Pretty crazy hu?

Rotaries are exceptionally louder than piston engines, plus the officials are always picking on rotaries because they have so many advantages. If it isnt more ballast, its less porting or less noise, which in racing usually means less power.
At Laguna Seca, they are fanatic about noise control.I guess because of the natural surroundings.Even the bikes are quiet. They actually run the same Jardine and Acropovic mufflers you can buy for streetbikes on their $100K World Superbikes.

I just finished removing the cat and precat from my '85 GS. After three hours with a hacksaw, five beers, and three grilled hotdogs (oh my aching arms!) I finally heard the satisfying sound of 30 pounds of exhaust hitting the concrete.

After that I just threw on a 7 dollar flexpipe from Meijer (about 5 feet long), just as a temporary measure until I get my RB system. I was very surprised at how quiet it still is, and the power increase is very high on the Holy **** scale! Very well worth the effort!!!

Where's the category for people that made their 2.5" stainless exhaust themselves and used 2 straight through mufflers.
