AHHHH... F$CKing brake swap bull$hit, i'm almost ready to quit.

Allright, i'm getting really pissed off.

what i HAVE: (S1 denotes 79-80, S2 denotes 81-85 for my purposes, yes i know 84-85 used different front strut assy's, but i dont care for the moment, i'm in the process of finding out which ones i have.)

S1 'S'
S1 Front calipers (on the car)
DOT SS Front Brake lines (S1)
DOT SS Rear Brake Lines (for the GSL Rear)

(I'm almost completely sure i bought the S1 w/ GSL rear kit... but the problem is, all my rear lines have the same thread on them (i can thread all three together to make a ring), whereas i think one of the female ends should be the S1 pitch to mate up with the existing hard line on the car, am i right?)

GSL Rear w/ calipers
S2 front strut assy's w/ new rotors and rebuilt calipers

__________________________________________________ ___

Now, i know the thread pitch changed from S1 to S2 which is the huge nightmare for me. I want to use the new front strut assy's and swap my GC coilovers onto them, just because they are in much better condition overall than my current ones. The problem here is that my front SS brake lines are threaded for the S1 pitch, which means i would need an adaptor that was S1 pitch female to S2 pitch male. (two of them)... which would solve my front brake problem. Or i could just use the S1 calipers and forget about it (is there any difference between the S1 and S2 Calipers to make me even worry about this?)

the second thing, is i need to replace my rear brake hard line, its shot. Which means i need S1 pitch on one end, and S2 pitch on the other end. I also need the distro block that sits on the rear axle, for some reason, my axle didnt come with it. Now as i mentioned about the rear SS lines, i can either run a S1 hard line all the way back and then use a S1 Female to S2 male adapter, or try to make a hard line thats S1 at the master, with an S2 fitting at the other end (assuming i'm right about the problem w/ my SS lines)

i'm just mentally taxed right now, cause i just spent like $400 for a rear and all new brakes, and now i'm gonna need to spend even more money on adapters and all sorts of other crap possibly, and i'm just getting fed up with this car, all i want to do is drive it, which i havent done since LAST summer. If any of this was confusing, please let me know and i'll clear it up, as i mentioned, i'm quite flustered. If any of you know where i can get these adapters that i know i'll need somewhere in this project, that would be golden information, if you have a distro block, please let me know, cause i'll take it off your hands.

last question, i've been told that if i gut my S1 prop valve (for rear drums), by taking out whats behind the nut at the rear of the prop valve, i'll have the proper brake pressures for discs all around. Is this correct?

Thanks, Kurt

Going through the same thing.

Ok where to start!

### If you got the SS kit for s1 w/gsl rear then you should have two lines with the corse style thread, 1 with one female corse style thread and one fine thread male end, and two fine thread new style lines. If you don't have those they are the wrong ones. Now, if you have all corse thread lines you will need adapters for the back. If all fine you will need adapters for the front. Good luck with the adapters probably best to get the right kit.

## '79 Calipers as you know are wedge style, meaning no pivot arm. '80 has the pivot arm but keeps the same thread as the '79. Thread changed in '81 but kept same mounting pattern. The calipers are all pretty much the same '80 up asside from thread.

## Where you purchased your SS lines might make a difference. I got mine from Rotary Performance in Garland, TX and they sent the right stuff. Now looking at the site they are available for $120. www.rx7.com Rest of this answer is in the first one.

### Sorry no extra block. Got lucky cause I almost threw out mine. Stupid me. Then I would be in your shoes for sure. Good luck with that.

last question, i've been told that if i gut my S1 prop valve (for rear drums), by taking out whats behind the nut at the rear of the prop valve, i'll have the proper brake pressures for discs all around. Is this correct?

### Yes that is correct. Take off the big nut on the bottom of the master and take out any hardware inside there. That will allow you to use that master cylinder and not wear out the rear pads within a week.

Thanks, Kurt[/QUOTE]

Hope this helps, Bob

good to know about the calipers, thanks.

about the kit, thats what i thought, and my front two lines were coarse thread, because they're on the car now...lol

but the remaining three (the longer and two identical shorter ones) are all fine thread, as they will all thread together... seems like someone at mazdatrix fucked up my kit.... oh well.

now all i need is the distro block and a place to get some adapters. (probably the hard part)...

the two threads are 1.25mm and 1.0mm right?... the 1.25 is the coarse thread if my brain works at all. Is it a standard flare? they list adapters for japanese and european and SAE... its all quite confusing.
