Wanna talk about rust, this thing looks great on the outside but man it looks like it was in a saltwater flood based on the corrosion on the intake and rust on the clamps. I would hate to see under the car. Even the Coolant neck looks bad.
Corrossion looks consistant with having had a vented hood and stood for a long time. Looks like a possible version 2 car, but the bins in the back are a question mark. Might be a Type R-II, which like the Version 2 RZ, came with bins.
Type R-II also came with the base "weave" seats.
Despite condition, this car might have some value as a rare type.
(Btw: Japan export rules require a radiation test.)
Dunno why you would add a turbo to the LS. You would be struggling for traction even with an N/A LS. It seems like a lot of extra complication, heat, weight, and lag for no real benefit other than a number on a dyno chart.
BAT is a place where stock cars are most revered so to me the low price is not all that surprising
However, IMO it was probably a combination of not showing a driving video, the car being an auto, and being a turbo V8. But the turbo V8 having the biggest impact as most of don't want something that extreme.
The going rate for a low mileage FD on BaT now seems to be $85-90k.
These cars still have nowhere to go but up, IMO. These are iconic 90s Japanese halo cars that are widely admired, yet very few nice examples remain. These prices will seem like a bargain in 3-4 years.
Some high-mile/more common cars on BAT are not getting the bids they would have even 2 months ago, but very low-mile/rare cars are still pretty strong.
And the really high-end collectibles are still strong, it seems:
It will be interesting to see how much this goes for compared to the near stock examples. I would think this would hold its value since it wouldn't be too hard to put back to stock if need be.
This 1993 Canadian/USDM with about 70,000 km popped up on Kijiji for C$50,000. While we all were debating whether the ad was real or not, a lady from Kamloops swooped in and spoke for it. Long time owner, moving on from rotary ownership after 48 years. Buyer showed up with a decent car trailer. Hopefully it will be taken well care of. To get a BC Collector plate owner must submit enough photographic evidence to show the car is entirely authentic (insurance might be voided if not). Collector plate allows full recreational use, provided you have another daily driver insured, for a few hundred dollars a year.
This car was immediately re-posted for $80,000 by the new owners. $30,000 more than the original asking price.
