Wasn't planning on posting this video but i think its due up now. I never really cared for ITR either till i watched this video. Honda did their homework with their Type R cars. The FD has its place and the ITR has its own. I wouldn't compare them head to head, however both have their merits and both are iconic in their respective places.
I subscribed to his channel and he subscribed to mine. He is currently looking for gracer7. He sold him his Fd from this video and is trying to buy it back. I lived the video because I currently have a few Fd buddies and we do also hang out and talk car stuff.
The ITR also benefits from being a higher-spec version of a mass produced car. That means everyone who owned the lower spec car dreamed of the higher spec car and everyone knew the basic car existed because they saw them all the time... The FD pretty much came in one basic spec for most of the world... and now we all want those Spirit R and RZ cars. The ITR is simply the Spirit R of the Honda FWD world...
I believe this sums it all up quite well. To me, it also explains this phenomenon of why every (nearly) s6 owner 'converts' to the '99 kit in an attempt to impersonate RZ / Spirit R's (imo). I fell into the same trap 20 years ago when I wished I owned the super duper cool model of the car I love loved. The Rolling Stones 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' is a great philosophy to have imo and over time I learned to appreciate the s6 for what it is. And at the end of the day, I'm ok with that.
Totally agree that a usdm low mile, desirable color '95 will eventually set a new all time record stateside.
I suspect S8, when they become states-legal will blow away the USDM S6
I’d have to agree with this. The most valuable RX-7 in the world at any given point will always be the 1 of 1 LHD Spirit-R in California (I’d have to get more information on where it’s kept, but it was made at a personal request of some high level Mazda exec at the time) but everything after that will absolutely be S8.

I’ve been saying this for some time. I never understood why people in the US are paying MORE for RHD S6 than they’d pay for an equivalent USDM LHD car. After some time I came to the conclusion that maybe the RHD car weren’t overvalued, the USDM LHD S6 is just undervalued.

To me it is unnatural to have an S8 bumper on an S6.
So this is where I partially disagree with you, but only partially because I see where you’re coming from. Mind you I’ve only had my FD for 4 years now, and I can’t count on 2 hands the amount of FD’s I’ve seen in person between seeing my first one in 2006 and this very moment, but to me they all look more or less the same. A properly cared for S6 with all the right body parts from a S8 (not just the bumper, but front lip and side skirts to match, tail lights, wing, etc) look about the same…to my unexperienced eyes anyways. This is the route I plan on going because I just absolutely LOVE the updated body parts for the FD. The S6 front bumper ages the car imo, while the S8 bumper modernizes it.
How on earth is an S8 bumper on an S6 "unnatural"? It's literally designed by the OEM and was a facelift without changing almost anything on the rest of the car. That's as natural as it gets.
Turn signals look so much better. I'm not a fan of the license plate bump.
I'm in the minority that prefers the pre-facelift stuff too, To my eye the angles of the indicator units in the S8 bumpers clash with the curvy-ness of the rest of the car.
I also prefer the early rear spoilers, and the earlier tail lights, but could probably be swayed either way.
Totally subjective and each to their own of course. I suspect I like all the early stuff because that's how they looked when I was a kid and they came out. Completely blew me away, seared that picture into my memory forever of what an FD should look like.

Bingo!!

I knew this was where you were going and I can agree, but then again…how many non-RX-7 people would ever know? Not many. Most of the RX-7’s people see these days are in movies and video games where they have excessive body kits (F&F) or are the 2002 Spirit R. And truth be told…well, I’ll get more into this point in my next comment.

This absolutely makes sense to me, and is a trend I’m seeing amongst us members who prefer one look over the other. I was born in ’90 so by the time the S6 came and went in America, I was still learning how to tie me shoes. It wasn’t until high school when I first saw one in person, and when you searched them online back then you primarily saw S7 and S8. So ZacMac the point you’re making makes sense for most things, and it pretty much sums up my reasoning as well. I have a S6 with all S6 cosmetics so I don't dislike it at all, its just what I first fell in love with was the S7 & S8 body style. Be, to each his/her own.
That's literally an S8 bumper photoshopped onto a C5 Corvette... Were you making a joke or was this intended to support your position of the S8 bumper looking unnatural on S6 chassis'?
The only way you could know an S6 with S8 bodywork added onto it is actually an S6 is if the owner didn't also install the fender lights. Or by looking through the windshield and seeing that it's LHD, I guess.
For those that care about the volume of airflow going through their radiator and oil cooler(s)...... the '99 spec bumper is far superior to the USDM piece. Looks damn nice too, although I may be biased
