Condition of engine bay is instructive.

Given the lack of space to store large items in Japan, it is a bit amazing to see these cars pooping up that have obviously been stored for a long time.

Container rates from Japan have reached five year lows, which may be good for bringing in RHD from Japan.

This may be good news as the early S8 cars are now likely eligible for US import under the 25 year rule.

Production in late 1998 was about 50 cars but ramped up in the Spring of 1999.

This increases the chance of more examples becoming available over the next 6 months.

Its typically much cheaper to ship a single car via auto transport ship rather than container. I believe mine was around $900 IIRC. The container price may drop prices of imported JDM goods (crossing fingers.) but if you are only looking at buying a single vehicle, a container does not make sense. If you plan on buying a vehicle or two and cramming them into a container with a plethora of parts, then it may make sense to save on shipping on all of the parts but you also risk damage to the car doing this. I still would not ship a clean car via container personally.

Seems ro-ro is the way to go these days. I wonder what is happening to those rates?

The alleyways around our local tuner shops seem to be filling up with RHD* with the ship names still fresh on the windscreens.

(*not many, if any, FD)

Yep, that was my car. They add these to the transport ships that are sending over all of the manufacture built cars but the manufacturers get priority which is one reason why it takes so long to ship over here. If you want a good rate you need to wait until they have some extra space. Mine sat at the Japanese port for about a month.

I thought the early RZs were only offered in black. Wonder if it was painted?

Hard to tell from one pic. RZ wheels should be a near-black gunmetal. But a lot can happen in 30 years.

Other than the VIN plate, anything that distinguished the car as a Type RZ is likely long gone.

The 1992 (October) and 1993 (August) RZ brochures only mention Brilliant Black.

The 1992 had a brace in the door to support the driver's door kneepad.

That might be the prize for this car.

Would it be worth $500 to find out?

bro this isn’t going to include the interior, just the parts described in the title… a full interior alone would sell for more than this.

I think the listing says it is for cutting up.

Seller might have been listing all the interior bits seperately.

But he may have ignored the knee pad brace in the door.

Can you pop over and get it for me?

But is it worth $600 to get that brace?

Seems the same guys is cutting up three FD as we speak. Is he doing us a favour or disservice?

He has the yellow one listed as an RZ as well (it has at least one second gen RZ front wheel (BBS))

The third car is listed as a Type RS.

They are either lying about the models or getting a bunch of painted ones. I think RZ only came in black until the newer generation when you can get them in white. They could be mistaking "type R" models as "RZ" which I've come across multiple resalers doing this when i was in search of my FD

As these cars are most certainly stripped out by the time they come up for cutting up, the only value, attributable to the Type RZ VIN, might be that VIN stamped in the firewall.

Likely we will not see the day where it would be worthwhile to reconstruct an RZ from such a state.

But what if the shell was a Spirit R shell?

And is not the genesis of the Spirit R, the Type RZ.

And would not a 1992 be the root of the eventual Spirit R ethos?
