I was bored at work and saw this on Kijiji today:

1995 Mazda rx7 | used cars & trucks | Calgary | Kijiji

72,000Km (45,000 miles)
original body & engine
104psi on all faces
well maintained
RHD

$16,000 CAD is about $12,000 USD.

That one looks pretty clean. In the engine bay picture of this car it's hard to see anything close but I don't even see any surface rust on the heads of any of the bolts or brackets that usually show it first. I have heard from multiple people and importers that it makes a very large difference as to where the car is from in Japan when it comes to rust. I don't have any knowledge as to where these places are but that is also something to consider, I have personally seen a few low mileage JDM cars come in that I wouldn't touch do to the rust which is very sad to see.

BC By the Sea

Well if you are in Japan, you are near the sea or in the mountains. Not much in between. A good half of Japan gets quite a bit of snow in the winter. Several cars I have parted out were very clean, and I suspect had been parked inside. If you go to a service station you get about five guys clambering over your car and the cars I've had seemed to have been lovingly carried for (nevermind the effect of sweaty palms on the shifters and steering wheels.). I would guess that the frequent inspections would also encourage good treatment of cars.

On the otherhand, you do see some ill-treated near wrecks. So beware of anything below an interior grade B.

BC '92 RHD Pops at Auction

This 92 with 9000 km on it was carried over from last week, but sold last night for Y1,410,000 a recent high for the model year. Car was grade three. Interior Grade A.

Lets track where this car ends up. VIN 112948 produced in September 1992.

No demerit points for the mud, apparently.

Cars like these I believe would have an effect on the value of the clean low mileage FD's here in the states. It would be hard for me to pass up a deal like this rather than spending $30k on a USDM one.

Grade 3 is not that clean, am I wrong? Not to mention you're looking at an easy $5k+ to get it shipped to and titled wherever you're at. Wouldn't hold my breath for a cheaper and better rx7 anytime soon.

Here's your bargain NSX: ......1990 Honda NSX - RHD from Japan......
Not exactly a screamin' deal for a run down NSX if you ask me.

if you import one of those super clean ones and add in shipping and modification to meet the state standard your already at really clean low mileage LHD territorie in price maybe even more . I don't see it impacting current price ...yet.

BC 1992 C exterior A interior

It is hard to tell, but maybe it is a C exterior due to paint fading (black afterall). A graded interior is very hard to achieve. Score sheet shows very little exterior marks. Front lip is damaged. Anyway it seems the C exterior was largely ignored.

Note it is RHD.

Nothwithstanding the A interior, the interior plastics would still be 25 years old. So kinda scary.

On the otherhand, you can accumulate replacement RHD interior pieces relatively easily still.

That is true, getting 94+ plastics probably isn't such a PITA for rhd cars....
Maybe I could learn to shift with the left hand.

Shifting with the left hand is actually pretty fun. For that part, I do miss my old RHD. The part that will drive you nuts is turning on the windshield wipers every time you go to signal!

I agree this is really annoying!

But not just a quirk of RHD....i recently got a rental while my truck is in the shop, its a Chrysler 200, LHD and the lights/wipers are on the opposite side to my GMC Truck!

BC Wrong Eye Contact

You have to watch out for pedestrians. They make eye contact with your passenger, think they have made eye contact with the driver, and step out in front of the car. At least in Vancouver, anyway, where pedestrians seem to think they are protected by some guardian angel of jaywalkers.

BC GTR and RX7 Wheels

Interesting, seem very similar to the 99 17" Mazda wheels. The 99 Mazda 16 inch wheels were less concave (flatter in aspect) however. Nonetheless, I wonder if they were made by the same parts supplier, and how the style was influenced in the nineties, that they would choose similar wheels.

Here are my 99 RX7 wheels just back from powder coating.

Difference might be that the holes are off-centre from the spokes in the RX7 case.

About US$7000 for a "roller", that is before costs to import. Possibly get as low as C$3500 for equivalent 1992 RHD roller in Canada.

My only guess is that there may be significant aftermarket parts to recover, or there is some hope to get it operational again.

A similar roller in Canada with "papers" might be about C$4-6000.

Without sufficient details to judge for sure, but this transaction hints of an American market access premium being paid.

I similar 1993 or 1994 might have gone for Y400.000 (or even less).
