current market usdm FD pricing VS jdm imports
There is a steady parade of cars on Buyee/YAJ.
I don't know who is buying or where they are ending up.
Some are surely getting parted-out, but it seems prices are rising above where that would be economic.

I am 100% sure that FD prices are crazy because they're (mostly) 25 years old now and because American wages are so high right now (compared to Japanese wages).
Yeah. Japan is on sale right now. But I am seeing the asking prices on Buyee/YAJ for FD parts adjusting quickly to the weaker yen and cheaper (Japan Post) shipping rates.
I.e. the sellers are trying to capture those benefits.

Next round of cars posted on YAJ seems to have begun.

One of the most rare and desirable FD. Eligible for the US as early as October 2025. A$120,000 will look cheap then.

my friends 2002 would probably go for something like this, except it’s actually quite high mileage for an FD (he drives the **** out of it, and the maintenance bills he pays shows it…).
I’d be tempted if to sell for a fifth of this price, though…. Haha.

Not FD, but because race car:

The hope is still alive for that "entry level" FD.

well, it's a straight FD (I assume), so someone in Japan will probably still want it... but lack of papers completely kills the value of the car.
My car had papers, but I lost them. However, I know the previous owner, so I can get them reissued whenever I'm ready to spend several thousand getting it street legal.

This will be a test for RHD in the US market. Late Version 3 Type RZ which pre-saged parts from the Version 4 parts bin.
With FD interest fading toward the end of 1995, this car should be one of a low production numbers in this configuration.
Car also shows the likely benefit of being able to replace parts with spares from other low mileage cars up and down the age scale.
Seller has taken effort to match the car to the presentation in that 1995 sales brochure.
RZ was the top line car until the Spirit R and one can see elements of the Spirit R starting to emerge.

Replacing the speedo with CDN-USDM one seems a bit of a mystery and unknown mileage will hurt.
Some people like having the 280 kmph dial.
Replacing the highly corroded rear suspension bits might have cost several thousand.
But likely would have been worthwhile.

Retrofitted Bose system. I know it was still an option item for Version 6 (you could have added to your Spirit R), not sure about Version 4.
230,000 on a Japan car is a lot. Girlfriend must have been in Wakanai.
Or maybe he was in the long distance tofu delivery service?

Spot the value proposiion here:
It is sometimes surprising what gets left behind. Anyone need those little caps to cover the front strut top nuts?
I think the pedestal for the clamps for the backseat conversion are finally NLA.

With all the work being put into the FD3S Wiring Book, I got a sneaking feeling the value of every Japanese FD is gonna jump the very second I say "it is finished"
Fun fact: CPU #2/TWS Unit #2 is wired differently between regions, so no plug & play here. USDM had a few circuits added for Starter Cut, the Security light, etc. From a quick comparison, it looks like one MIGHT be able to use a USDM CPU #2 in a Japanese FD if the connectors are re-pinned properly. CPU #1/TWS Unit #1 is the same though.

I would like to see a circuit diagram for each harness. Does such a thing exist?
.
It is a bit of a puzzle to sort out which connectors might have been snipped off.
Is there someone who can test those CPU #2/TWS for functionality. I have a accumulated about six of them now.
Be nice to know if they worked.
