That Spirit R would be a nice car...and for only $29k CAD. I'd keep the Ganador mirrors but would replace the Bumper with an OEM one.

BC Quick Mix

Auction markets in Japan seem mixed in early 2018. There continues to be a steady flow of cars, ranging from total wrecks to very low mileage clean examples. High end cars seem to be moving quicker than low and mid-range examples. Limited edition Bathurst versions seem to be coming out or the woodwork, with a very low km 2002 fetching a record high of Y3,176,000 today. Car was "sale by owner" and was a "one owner" car; graded "4 BC" with 38,500 km on the odo. VIN of this car 607264 close to the end of the run for FD.

Meanwhile, a very similar clean apparently stock Bathurst example with 133,000 km on it and graded "3 C" (also a one owner/sale by owner car), was pulled from auction yesterday. Intriguing fact was the car was VIN 607303. Given that the last FD made might have been 607313, the car may have been one of the last 10/11 made.

That grade 4 2003 Type R Bathurst with 63,000Km on it looks really nice. 2,146,000 Yen is about $24k CAD or $19.7K USD.

BC Picking up Steam in Japan

Many successful auctions so far this week in Japan. Many good deals for about $1,000,000 or less.

BC Soft in Japan

A long list of upper end JDM FD seems to have largely carried over this week. Meanwhile some sharp deals on Series 8 were achieved perhaps in the shadow of the top end cars.

May I suggest Buyee does not paint a very indicative picture of the used car market in Japan? All the best cars sell at auction first (with the best cars going to private buyers in Japan, Australia and NZ), the next best and/or overpriced examples going to Japanese dealers and exporters (which can find on sites like GooNet), then the worst of the rest end up in the Yahoo Auctions.

I realise this isn't very helpful as auction houses are now completely opaque - you can't even see photos of the cars or auction sheets anymore, let alone find out how much they actually sell for, without being a dealer and having access to their system.

With the upjump in prices, those wishing to get into the FD game on an entry level budget may have to resort to bottom feeding.

It is interesting that there are in fact bottom feeding chances out there in Japan.

Instances in North America to find cars cheap seem to be very rare these days.

Cars for parts just are not appearing anymore. In our area at least.

What it would entail to bring some of these beauties into North America, I do not know.

I find the small snippets of backstory on these Yahoo cars quite interesting.

My friend, who is a more active importer, says one of the tests before a car can be loaded on a ship is that the car is not radioactive.

I've heard this too. When people were evacuated after the Fukushima disaster, most only had time to take the clothes on their backs. That means a lot of vehicles (Skylines, Supras, RX7s, etc.) were left behind. As time went on, those vehicles became very desirable and people began stealing those left behind. Then the same cars would be sold to overseas buyers with fake documentation.

That may explain the air freshener I found in my car in the shape of the radioactive warning sign.

Or maybe it was a Re-A logo?

I have noticed that many FDs and Skylines have been sitting on Kijiji for weeks or months now. It looks to me like people are looking to cash in and more JDM cars are coming up for sale.

Generally folk seem to be gun shy about going the YAJ route.
