Hard to say but probably half the cost of a ticket out there. If you are spending that much on a car, that's not that much more to be sure it is a solid car. I spent the money on probably 6 different Japanese car faxes while I was shopping which is how I found out about the accident with the RZ. There are a few people in Japan that have made businesses out of this now because of the up tik on importing since our favorite 90's JDM icons are now legal because of the 25 year rule here.

I'd think you'd need to have significant volume to play such a role.

Too many things to go wrong and one adverse claim could wipe out a lot of effort.

This is a guy I follow that has done very well for himself but he also does the exporting side along with it. If I were to hire somebody it would probably be him. He isn't the most Savvy when it comes to rotaries but I don't really need that as long as I have my compression numbers and requested documentation. I know people that have friends that have used this guy and have been very happy with his inspections and cars they have purchased. If anything, they said he is too picky on stuff. He has a good eye for blemishes. Some of these people had said if anything, he exaggerates the imperfections and when they received their cars, it was better than expected. They had said he would tell them straight up "you don't want this car" for "X" reason even if the person is super excited about it. He doesn't just want to make the quick money and run. I believe if you choose him as an exporter, he doesn't charge per inspection, he will look at many different cars for the same rate, he just wants happy customers and a good reputation in the end. There was a podcast that interviewed him at some point as well, I would have to dig it up.

If you are thinking of putting in rear seats you will need to scavenge the "pedestals" from the rear strut towers, as can been seen in the pics.

The pedestals were still available NIB from Mazda until a few years ago.

Current examples of FD up for auction on Yahoo Japan this week. Based on recent BAT sales for RHD, it would seem that S8 pricing in Japan is above what the North American market will tolerate at the moment (when costs of procurement and import are considered). Those hoping JDM FD will be a cheaper entry ticket to FD ownership may be disappointed.

Prices in Japan very wildly. I’ve seen cars going for 1.5 million or so on Twitter lately.

The problem with buying such a cheap FD is that it’s about the cost of a new keg from Mazda…

I mean, just new pillowballs will see you back almost 200,000 yen…

Long in the tooth example, but with some interesting in-period kit.

Its been a bit and I think this car is a good litmus test as to what the market for LHD cars are at the moment. Not crazy low miles, not perfect body but a good driver's car for sure. I wouldn't expect this to go for a ton on BAT because it wouldn't be considered the "collector" type since its not pristine. Still has a fresh rebuild and 99 spec turbos.

A '99 Type RS (IBM) recently sold for about $50,000 on BAT, but the auction result has been deleted. Maybe the buyer reneged?

The auction following has also been deleted. There were signs before it was deleted that the buyer was ghosting the seller/BAT.

Another FD bites the dust. It is surprising how long some FD have survived.

It didn’t get any bids, so I assume it hasn’t actually been chopped up yet.

as a 22 year old fd owner, cheapest insurance quote i got was $400/mo. No accidents and I have never even gotten a ticket.

Assuming daily driver, using someone like Progressive?
Is that for liability only, stated value, other?

Why do the JDM cars plastic interior bits look so much cheaper than USDM? Specifically the shifter console
