Common Sense
I just got an idea.....
how about letting us police ourselves? I think that the thread-starter should have the ability/opportunity to move and delete his/her own thread. So many of hte latest threads are simple "what rims should I buy" or "rx-7 vs ___" After the poster has received enough replies, that person should be able to remove the post, which not only will bump other posts up one notch, but also free up some storage space. This would also ease up the responsibility of the moderators.
Sound good?
btw, i don't think ppl like "flamethrowers4u" will ever be back again, so we ecould probably start deleting unused members

This was an example. The guy is obviously just excited to be getting his rx-7 (as we all were at one point). If someone would just tell him that it's in the wrong section, I'm sure he would move or delete it, as long as it was said respectfully.

I like the idea of the "Advanced Tech" section. DSMtalk has one and it works rather well. It keeps FAQ tech questions to a minimum in that section. I also like the idea of a Parts Talk and a Parts Review section. Parts Talk would simply talk about various parts while the review section is a place to people to start a thread about the latest part they installed and have other members ask questions about how they like it. Maybe a "newbie" section would work well. They could post there simple questions in there and some helpful members could answer the questions.

That's not really how I meant that. General conversations within a thread are ok, but when they turn to the inane and are non-beneficial to the topic at hand I would consider that post whoring (like "hey look at my sig" yadda yadda). I'm also not suggesting you ban someone for whoring on the first offense, more of a last resort, and then only a 3 day ban or something like that. On the list we are supposed have rotary content, however related, in our posts. If we try to maintain at least a little topic related content in all of our posts that would be step in the right direction. So if you conversing within a thread about, say, timing split, it's ok to also say "Hey, nice avatar" but not a post that just says "Hey, nice avatar" without any other thread related content. My opinion anyway.

I can't count the thousands of posts that I have agreed with all the other people before me...does that make me a post *****? Maybe...but to BAN someone for posting? WTF?...now that sounds quite harsh...

My suggestion, let every 16 year old jackass out there have one. Soon, they'll only be 50 or 60 FD's left.
P.S. sorry for the way off topic, the guy posted this on the first page and i had to say something.

It's the internet. How legal issues like this are handled, I have no clue. Could someone ACTUALLY go to a lawyer, and say we are discriminating them in some sort of way?

He claimed that the Southwest Airlines' website discrimnated against the blind since it had heavy use of graphics. The screen reader that he is using which converts text into spoken words can not decipher graphics.
He lost the lawsuit because the court system deemed that the the Disabilities Act applies to "public places". Apparently the internet is not considered a public place.
First of all, I'm glad TTT brought this up six months ago, but I'm disappointed it's just now being taken seriously - back then was the time to nip it in the bud, so to speak.
I used to spend hours reading useful information about FDs, and I have learned so much it's unbelievable. However, I barely visit the forum any more because of the downward spiral it has seen due to stupid/useless posts. When I do have a question I need answered, it's off the front page so fast no one "helpful" has a chance to see it and I get tired of bumping my posts over and over.
In regards to the search function, it's useful but has become significantly less so as the number of "junk" posts has increased. I'll admit at times I've gotten frustrated by the sheer amount of crap I've had to sift through when searching and have asked the question again just to get a worthwhile answer in less than 5 days - especially if it's something I need to know somewhat quickly.
Relevant post titles would greatly help this, but it's up to the mods to jump on those people who use generic or misleading subjects. Jason, I would LOVE to have a dedicated Tech or Advanced Tech section! However, I think the "X-gen specific" sections should be that to begin with. Having more forum sections, on the other hand, would help narrow down search results.
What really irritates me is that in almost EVERY thread, at some point, it degrades to two people having a personal conversation. It's great that we all get along so well, and God knows I've had my share of fun in the lounge with some of you, but replies to a tech question should ONLY deal with the question. Use PM for personal conversations!!
This isn't really anything that hasn't already been said, but majority rules and I want my voice heard
The forum has unfortunately gone from pleasantly useful to tediously useful, something needs to be done, and it's up to EVERYONE who takes the forum seriously to help return it to its former "glory." Mods need to be more aggressive and strict and those of us who want a serious tech section need to take a more active role by reporting wasteful threads. I really do hope some changes are made!!

I would love to keep the current Gen Sections for just tech threads but there are alot of non tech threads that relate to a specific Gen that also belong in that section. Thats where the problem is. Everything is mixed together, making searching tough.
Take a look at www.i-supra.com . I like how they have seperated the generations out. Yea, they have way to many sections but I think we might consider something like that.
Example:
Third Gen Discussion
Gen Technical

many many sections on that forum. to many.
i think that would be good, but we should leave the one we have already as the "general" section due to all the crap that is already in here.
the description on their site does not sound like what we should use though. any sugusetions on that?

I agree the Supra forum has too many sections, but it is nice. One thing I've always felt about the RX7-Forum is that nothing really "jumps out" at you - for instance, we have an Exterior Mods section, but everything seems to blend in together - I think it's the color scheme. It looks nice but doesn't do much for emphasizing different areas. Maybe have a different background color for tech sections, another for general talk, so on and so forth. Hmmm...I really like that idea
They can still be shades of the blue theme, but as long as they are different I think it would help people find the section they want/need. Dammit, now I'm getting the webmaster in me going...I'm gonna have to work on my site for a few hours

Granted, it's not in the 3rd gen. section, but I can't count how many threads lately have turned into these two clowns trading posts jerking each other off in their gibberish language, and some of those threads have been in the 3rd gen. section. And the General Automotive section, and the Kills section, and...
I know damn well neither one of them is ever going to be an RX-7 owner or a patron of Jason's store, so why in the hell do they get the entire forum to play in as if it were their own backyard? And you know damn well that whatsisname is going to be twice as insufferable now that daddy apparently bought the new Benz he's been bragging up for the last three or four months.
This is one of the reasons I barely bother to post any more, and have been considering bailing altogether. Nobody seems to give a **** and no one is policing the ankle biters who are ruining the forum for everyone else. Who wants to bother answering anyone's questions when these two dorks are as likely to show up and hijack the thread for their own amusement as not??

Just had an interesting thought... I'll bet that many members would be willing to donate quite a bit to the forum piggy bank just to have the pleasure of never seeing a post from either of these two again.
So how much would it take to buy a couple member executions?

Jim stop being such a ****!
Seriously, though, I haven't been here nearly as long as a lot of you, but I get the feeling I'm in the "older" crowd (if 27 is old, sigh), and I've noticed some people running around that we could probably live without, in addition to the ones Jim mentioned.
