Common Sense

I am noticing a big lack of common sense when it comes to people's post in the entire forum. It's gotten me a little irritated, maybe because i'm an old timer from when the forum was created and was filled with useful information. Back then it seemed like there was something new to learn just reading daily posts.

I remember when everyday I'd read a post about a new install and dialog about how a new suspension setup worked, or DYNO runs stock turbo cars at 350rwhp. Everyone had contribued something it seemed. Now all I see are questions that when asked, a person with enouh common sense would tell you, DUHR!

I'm sure everybody is a newbie once in their life, and I was one too. Me as an example, I bought my FD when I was 19, and am on my second one at 22 (By choice). But as a newbie you are judged rather quickly on how you first introduce yourself to a large group of people that are sensitive about their personal feelings toward the RX-7 to begin with. Posting your first few questions lacking so much common sense will result in the very usual reply of, you're just a kid, you don't know what you're doing, or do us all a favor and return your car.

The newbies need to start thinking about common sense BEFORE they post. Sometimes the SEARCH function is helpful, sometimes it isn't. If you feel like you want to put a V-12 or Supra engine in your car, use some common sense and take some measurements and come up with some useful data, that when you post, we wannabe veterans know to take you seriously. I'm really tired of hearing from my friends, "Teddy, Can you polish my rotors so they can be shiny?", think before you ask this one. Or "I'm going to make a 400rwhp street non-turbo rotary, and i don't care what you say. Fine don't believe me, I'll show you!!!" or "I'm going to get a BLITZ single turbo, why? Because no one has it, and yes I have really researched it" These are good examples where you should use common sense in making your decision, and even before asking!

Wannabe verterans, COMMON SENSE as well, and take a chill pill. If someone posts about a V8 install, more than likely they, and most other people could care less about what you THINK about it, unless you can provide REAL data.

Bottom line, use your head and think!!!

If you want to ask questions that require others to do some research for you, be courtegous and try to provide useful information later on when it's needed.

Try to provide others with useful data, as opposed to posting threads with HELP!!!!, EMERGENCY!!!! all the time.

I want to notice a change in the forum, especially the 3rd gen, less whining, and more useful data being posted.

Sadly, those days are long gone. :(

I agree that we're pretty bad when it comes to lounge-type material. But to be honest we're a lot better than other forums out there. I'm a member of a corvette forum, mustang forum, and honda-acura forum (the worst), and the majority of their posts are just to ask opinions on body kits, tires, etc. followed by 100+ posts of people making dumb and childish remarks. I even posted to the honda-acura forum a suggestion that they try to use non-vulgar words to get their point across, because every other post seemed to contain a curse word.

Johnny 04-10-02 06:37 PM

I gonna leave this here...because I am completely in agreement....and have had a rough time...moving and deleting stupid threads....

I'm gonna start cracking down even harder soon....I dont wanna see links to some stupid car on ebay...shit like that......but ppl dont fuXXen learn.

potatobbq 04-10-02 07:35 PM

I couldn't agree with you more! There's been way too many posts of "EMERGENCY! NEED PICS OF BODY KIT", "WHERE CAN I BUY OEM PARTS?", etc. lately. I think I've brought this up as an idea before but maybe it would be a good idea to have a "newbie" section where newbies could ask some of these questions without polluting the 3rd Gen Specific area.

Nameless 04-10-02 07:42 PM

It's all part of having such a large number of members. A lot of the people that ask those "body kit" questions don't have the car. While I do agree with you, TTT, unless the forum changes it's rules those same stupid ass questions can be asked over and over.

spooledUP7 04-10-02 07:55 PM

I have always thought that there should be a sidebar in each forum listing the most popular threads or questions posted. Things like low boost, wheel sizes, wheel hop, lighting, and of course body kits. As for the lounge, I could care less what people post there since it really should be a free for all.

Problem with that is people would rather post another thread because their problem doesn't exactly match the one in the sidebar. "Well I'm only getting 6lbs or boost, and this thread says what to do if you're only getting 7lbs of boost. Gee, I better ask again."

This is strictly a common sense/lazyness issue. People would rather ask a question yet again, then to use the search button. Plus you don't raise your post count when you search. And Lord knows..... it's all about the post count.

04-10-02 08:04 PM

i agree with you completely, TTT.

my reasoning as to why there are so many dumb questions/answers/coments is because the price of the average FD is dropping rapidly, and they are falling into the hands of the wrong people.

04-10-02 08:08 PM

also, what bugs me the most is newbies that get stock FDs and ask "how much for a 20B conversion?? it shouldn't cost more than $2,000-$3,000....right??"

ThirdGenRX7 04-10-02 08:16 PM

I agree that a lot of the stuff in the thirdgen section is getting bad, but can't you just not click on the thread? And if you do decide to read it just don't respond and let that be your protest by not encouraging their retardedness.

well as a mod I should click on most if not all of them....

the problem is the subjects are often misleading to get you to click....I hate that shit

ThirdGenRX7 04-10-02 08:30 PM

you should add a "dumbass" section in the thirdgen forum, a nice place you can dump threads that are stupid

that is another thing that i hate.

SUBJECT: "Britney Spears naked on the hood of her FD!"

POST: "HAHA! i fooled you! now that i got your attention......."

Jonesboro 04-10-02 09:01 PM

I'm afraid that the recent surge of poor quality posts are a reflection of the newest group of folks that are pursuing ownership of an FD. God help us all!

Lost Time 04-10-02 09:06 PM

See, now I would disagree with that. 1) Darwin will take care of those folks and land them in a ditch. 2) For every FD in a ditch, the value of mine keeps going up.

My suggestion, let every 16 year old jackass out there have one. (not all 16 year olds are jackasses) Soon, they'll only be 50 or 60 FD's left.

Import Convert 04-10-02 09:30 PM

My fear is that every newbie who searches for answers to newb questions will find all the other newb threads that say to search, therefore prompting the newb to post another newb thread and making the problem even worse.

Also, the DSM forum has a link to a really good FAQ in an obvious place.

ThirdGenRX7 04-10-02 10:05 PM

but what about us poor saps who get rearended? (car isn't totalled or anything but will need a new bumper) i don't wanna have to pay 90000 for another fd;)

Wow, $90,000 for an FD? Maybe I should go car shopping with you next time. I might be able to save you a couple bucks. ;)

well if there are only 50 left i'd imagine the price will be something like that:D

suganuma 10-23-02 10:21 PM

i think people should just search and if they find a relevant thread that never had their question answered - bring it to the top!....that way only 1 thread about 1 thing and not 10 little ones about nothing...

twinturboteddy - check your PMs....

black99 10-23-02 11:10 PM

I agree with you guys... I think a majority of the forum has always thought this way there has been just no real way to put an end to "I wanna see the FEED front, with C-West sides and a C-West wing"(Can't you just imagine it your head or something?) type threads or even newbie threads that don't need to be started because the question was asked 6,000,000 times.

But I've posted an ebay link once or twice to stuff I thought was relevant here(sorry Johnny if it wasn't). Please don't stone me to death.

IMO most of the stuff(80%) in the 3rd gen section is a.) either a subject has been hashed out and the forum member needs to stop being lazy and search, b.) It's a damn poll(seriously weren't there like 50 polls this week, seemed like it) or c.)It's something asking an opinion like just a general "what single turbo is best", a subject that takes weeks and years to discuss with no correct answer across the board.

No doubt there is some great stuff too in the 3rd gen forum daily, it's just weeding through the jargon that sucks.

Fd3BOOST 10-23-02 11:18 PM

Teddy hit it right on the head. This place got itself beat down by retarded posts that really pertain to the same old dumbshit. I hateed to watch it happen but it's here and it isn't gonna change. I really don't spend much time posting here anymore. I read now when I can find something I didn't know (which can be alot of reading:D)

The rx7forums glory days are gone my friends.

poss 10-23-02 11:57 PM

can we make a newbie quiz that they have to pass before they are allowed to post? :D
