Water pump housing to engine removal

I have a 90 vert. Im in the process of replacing the water pump and the water pump housing to engine gasket. I've read up on the FSM and haynes and don't see anything in them that says you have to remove the OMP and or their lines to remove the water pump to engine housing? I dont seem to have enough clearance to remove the housing with the lines in tact. I have even tried removing the lines out of the guides and it still doesnt give me enough room. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

you're better off removing the 4 bolts and sliding them away a bit as they break easily, did you remove the 4 hub bolts? or at least the water pump pulley

you need to remove the OMP lines, don't try to think they will stretch out of the way while you clean the surfaces and replace the gasket or you will wind up on the for sale section looking for new OMP lines.

Just in case you do rip a line, this may come in handy...

So I should remove each of the four individual oil lines or the two bolts and the pump housing. By the way everything is out. Im having to replace the radiator also. thanks!

hes recommending removing the UIM and all and gettin to the oil injectors, something i dont think it would do in your shoes, and certianly not worth the time involved.. IMO of corse.

Would it be safe in your opinion to remove the 4 oil lines from the pump housing and slide them out of the way a bit in order to gain clearance for the removal of the water pump housing? Do the lines tend to leak at the bolts after removal? Or, should I just leave the lines alone and remove the two pump housing bolts to the pump? Thank you.

they should be fine to move out of the way when you unbolt them, just be careful with them because theyre very brittle and will only be a little flexible. the bolts usually don't leak, the OMP itself and it's seal to the front cover are usually what cause the oil leaks so i would leave the OMP in place unless you want to reseal it.

If you do remove the lines remember to order the 4 brass crush washers. Theyre only ment to be crushed once. I took the lines off the first time and the whole pump off the second. I thought the whole pump was pretty easy and no leaks.
