Spark

I recently purchased a 1988 Turbo II.
I tried starting it but it won't start. I know I have fuel and compression, I just don't have any spark. I pulled all the plugs and check them and they are working fine. I used a DVOM and checked the coils and they all ohmed out fine, all at .5 ohms. I measured the voltage on the harness to the coils. The voltage to the trailing side is at around 12.5 volts, which is what the book called for. The voltage to the leading side is at about 6.5 volts, it should be getting 12.5 with the key on. I was wondering if anybody has ran into this before. The ignitors should be fine because two usually don't go out at the same time. The car was running fine before, about 2.5 months ago., stored in a garage. Only thing that I'm confused about is the 6.5 volts.

Welcome to the forum.

Congrats on the new car. They're a fun little car with a unique powerplant. I dig mine.

I just don't have any spark. I pulled all the plugs and check them and they are working fine.
Does not compute.

I'm not sure about the 6.5V deal, but it seems that our ignition systems are pretty robust and don't have problems all that often. I've never had any issues with mine over the years.

Are you sure it's not just flooding? I have to say that since you make no mention of it.

Cheers

Hey thanks,

I just don't have any spark. I pulled all the plugs and check them and they are working fine.

I pulled the plugs out and fired them on another car. I'm sure the motor is not flooded, I pulled all the plugs out and cranked the engine while I was checking for spark.

The CAS is the crank angle sensor.
It in on the drivers side of the engine, on the front cover. It has a black, circular cover, with a 4 pin white connector comming from it. Make sure its connected.

I know that the Leading Coil can fire by itself, not relying on the Trailing Coil. Can the Trailing one fire without the Leading, or does the Leading have to work in order for the Trailing to work?

By the way, when removing the fan shroud, how does that affect the temperature?

Sorry, my computer is extremely slow, everything is delayed. It may seem like I'm asking questions twice

The shroud is pretty important for around town (under 40) driving. If the tach moves, your trailing coils should be firing....

What could cause it to not fire at the plug but at the coil? Short in the plug wire?
