Smoke!

I drove from Tucson, Arizona to Long Beach California in my 90 S5 vert great mini vacation! i made it there no problem it was a great drive. on the way home it was fine too but when i was literally a mile from my house in Tucson the car stalled, i was doing about 40 or so and all the idiot lights came on. (just like when you first turn the ignition key) and i noticed the TAC was reading 0. so with what momentum i had left i pulled over and popped the hook looked and i saw smoke coming from the A/C compressor.

at the time i didn't know what it was so i was like ****... i let it sit for about 15 mins till it stoped smoking. i stated the car up shut off everything i could (A/C, Music etc) and headed home. without a problem. but now i don't know what to do. is my car alright to drive? i don't want to mess something up worse by driving it.

na its cool man i understand! i looked at the belt drive diagram and thats what it is! its the A/C compresor. anytime i turn the ac on it start msking a nasty smell like rubber/plastic burning. but when i turn it off it seems to go away.

your belt is probably rubbing against the outter rim of the ac pulley.

i have the same problem. AC Compressor is seized. just dont turn the AC and u'll be fine until u replace it. it's the compressor clutch, although i dont know if u can replace just the clutch or u have to replace the whole thing.

good, coz i've been running my FC without AC (and it sucks not having AC here in Texas) for about 8 months now. someone's gonna give me a used AC Compressor, it's just a matter of him finding it underneath all his spare parts :P
