Exclamation Show Off Your Major Projects Here!

The purpose of this thread is to allow all members to show off their major 2nd gen related projects in one easy to find place. The aim is to keep a current thread of all running projects organized and in one spot. Not only will this show off some of the excellent work being done here, but it will provide a common thread to which to refer to when looking for ideas or when the "what can I do to my car?" question come up. There are so many great project threads but they all disappear eventually as new topics take their place. It's a shame that they are not archived somewhere, which is why I want to make this thread.

Eventually this thread will end up in the Archives where it will be probably stickied to the top and maintained with new additions and updates. I'll do maintenance via PMs.

I'll get to the format of how this will be done in a sec but first we need to define "major project". By major, I mean anything that is a long term and complicated project. For example, a full TII swap into an NA would qualify, while bolting on an exhaust would not. Now if that exhaust was fabricated from scratch and documented, that would be a major project. A picture of a custom made cold air intake is not a major project, but a thread containing good pictures and description of that intake being constructed is, especially if it is part of a larger design (ie. standalone, porting, etc.). Standalone installs are a major project. Installing a Greddy (or any "bolt in") intercooler kit is not unless it is part of a greater whole. Good pictures and documentation is the key and what makes these project threads really interesting reading.

The thread will end up in a format similar to this:

Username
Title Of Project
Description of project. Sort of a summary of things taking place, why, how, where, when, etc.
Link To Project 1
Description of project link 2
Link To Project 2
Description of project link 3
Link To Project 3

The list will be alphabetical in order and each section updated as the project takes place.

So what I need is for everyone to post their projects into this thread. Include a good description and all topics relevant to the project. I'll leave this thread open for a few weeks before formatting everything for the archives.

What I do ask is that all comments not directly related to this thread be kept out. Please post project related comments to the actual project thread to keep this one clean. Thanks!

Great idea Aaron. Some of the reasons you mentioned are reasons I created the GV site. Here are some of mine:

Cellphone Display
I've always wanted a real-time readout of all kinds of sensors. This project ended up going a bit further. Basically, a small cellphone LCD displays sensor outputs, like RPM, various temperatures, battery voltage, AFR, etc. as well as acting as a logging stopwatch for driving events (lap times), and being able to log sensor data as well. A serial port allows lap times and sensor data to be downloaded to a computer for analysis. This is a work in progress.

Electronic Aux and VDI Actuation
This project's goal was to open and close the VDI port, and possibly auxiliary intake ports in the future, without having an air pump of any kind, stock or aftermarket. The final system uses a solenoid along with some circuitry to detect engine RPM and give the solenoid enough kick to get the job done.

Vane AFM to Hot-Wire MAF
The S4 AFM has some major issues. One is the flapper limits orientation to horizontal, but even then, hard cornering can cause incorrect airflow readings. Another is the bulky size, and possible air restriction. This project replaces the S4 N/A vane AFM with a hot-wire MAF. This is a work in progress.

I'm still working on my T2, but I haven't been taking pictures... Should be dropping the motor in thanksgiving, or whenever I have free time from college.

my 87 13b

Just bought the car last week,

heres what ive done so far.
2nd Gear, the shift boot was clogging the Shift rod.
we instaled a new leather boot and it ***** perfectly now.

The spark plugs were spitting pretty bad so we installed a new set of NGK's

We installed a 6 inch red neon light in place of the interior light. its pretty.

We got my cd player installed.

The drivers side window trim on the door was corroded and rusted so i stripped the rest of the old paint, sanded it. and repainted it. it looks brand new.

and the spare tire well hade a 1/2 in hole in the metal. we fixed it and sealed it.

One of the recently surfaced problems is that the clutch is slipping terribly and needs replacing.

There seems to be a oil leak from the filter, possibly improperly primed or double sealed, fixkin that today.

gas tank has a slight leak from when it had been bolted before.

Thanks for reading and feel free to comment and let me know of any ideas

Props to Aaron Cake for starting what will hopefully wind up being a pretty cool thread. Anyway...

WHO: spot_skater (James, for those who know/have met me)
Summary: Turbo Swap into an 88 SE.
WHY: Blew the NA motor in August, spent a few months looking for the right parts, and I got the deal of a life time on it in late October.
HOW: Uh...by hand, with the help of some buddies if they wanna swing through and drink some beer and get to work.
WHEN:: In the process. Project began last week (Nov. 7, 2006) A few hours each day, I'm taking my time, keeping everything in decent order.
Stock J-spec motor and tranny.
WHERE:: Poughkeepsie, NY. In my garage.

Mods immediately going in: stage 2 competition clutch kit and pressure plate, fidanza 8 lb aluminum flywheel, FD pump, rb 2.5" dp and presilencer, corksport 3" catback, HKS SSQV BOV, bigger injectors (need to purchase), SS braided oil cooler lines, unorthodox lightweight crank pulley, Haltech E8 ECU (need harness + programming cable), mazdatrix tii tranny to NA rear driveshaft (need to purchase) and of course TII hood, and maybe some S5 tails.

Work is being done in the garage at my house... Polishing of manifolds and porting will be done in my basement...

Status so far... most parts acquired (see above), blown NA motor removed. Here's a few pics...

First pic is from two days ago.
Second and third pics are from yesterday.

Today I plan on removing the turbo, putting some oil in the housings, rotating it a bit, and spraying some pblaster on all of the apex seals. I also plan on doing this to check the condition of the apex seals, so that if a rebuild is in order, I will know before attempting to start the motor/droppoing it in. The motor was said to have been sitting for about a year, and the oil has been drained. It turns freely, and seems/sounds like it has good compression. A full emissions removal will also be included in the process.

Semi-Longrun plans: I am planning on using the Haltech E8 to control the electronic OMP of the S5, so I won't have to pre-mix. Stock TII TMIC will be used, and I hope to run either 10 or 12 psi of boost through the stock turbo. Although I have a spare, I'd rather save the spare for a later date to send it out to BNR for a hybrid set up.

Also, to aid in the tuning, I will use HALWIN's autotune to help get a decent idle (will be using a stock s4/s5 base map (thanks Claudio!!) ) and hopefully get a tune some time this winter (DYNO) from a reputable tuner.

Goal is to have the car idling/driven around my block before Christmas. How realistic is this? We'll soon find out.

https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...0&postcount=11

That's all for now. /End First Post.

James

Regarding the above, this thread needs to simply be a list of links to pre-existing threads. The info from this thread will be copied and pasted to a new thread in the archives so posts like the above won't be transferable.

Here is mine

TII on the cheap-
I got an S4 JDM TII engine and tranny, hardly used after the 45k it was claimed as when it was bought. The apex seals have flattened springs on the rear rotor I believe. I am buying an 87 TII that was stripped of the engine and tranny, for only $200 as it was planned on being junked anyway. I will be installing a megasquirt and bigger injectors, and getting a 60-1 eventually. Once I take pics of the engine I will start a thread on it, trying to get the front pulley bolt off still.

Rtek7 Stage 2.0 Install on '87 Turboo II

This is a little photo essay on my TII ecu replacement. I bought the car with 145,000 on the chassis and a brand new rebuild in the engine bay. It has high flow intake, Blitz SS BOV, Racing Beat Downpipe from turbo to straight exhaust, NI style dual tips.

I wanted to improve upon some things, and had been looking to upgrade fuel supply. I was hoping to avoid dealing with the issue of the stock fuel cut by another form of fuel management, whether it was piggy back or stand alone r what ever, as long as my new motor doesn't run lean. So, after some investigation, I decoded to pick up one of these babies: Rtek7 Stage 2.0 .

Anyways, here is just one reason for my choice, look at how easy this was.

As I mentioned before, please DO NOT post pictures into this thread. You need to create a NEW THREAD (or have an existing thread) for the project which will be linked in this thread.

Keep in mind that if you don't include a description, I will have to make one up. So don't complain if it's not what you want.
