Poly urethane foam

I know there are several types of poly expanding foam. Some don’t retain water some do some will mildew and some suppress sound and some are stiffer and so on.

I want to know what foams and brands are best for filling the car with like frame rails rockers and such. So a stiff foam but I want to be sure it is one that is safe to use in areas that see water.

This is a process you can only do once and can not screw up on. Of course I want to be 100% on this decision

this is a link to a web page that will help you decide what to do look at the part that is talking about doors he will talk about the stuff he used to seal them with(closed cell foam). this site will also help out people that are trying to put a nice system into there car, or gust make it quieter. hope this helps.

well in my opinion i would go with the closed cell foam because of its resistance to water and moisture buildup in the areas of preference that you are considering on doing this. i would go to a hardware store and find acople different kinds and experiment, then post your finding on your blog(witch is well done i might add). as you said that you can only do this once. so experimenting with different brands and mixtures of them might work better than gust using one kind for it all. for ex.... if you are doing the rails in near the engine a heat resistant hard but still flexible kind or combination would work better, and in a different area like say the rail for the frame in moisture prone areas you may want to use a more water resistant produced or mixture to help with the different environment it will be facing. hope this helps
PS experimenting is the best way to get things like this the way you want it. use spare parts to base your experiments on and try to find a produced that will fit your needs and what they say on the can or box may not be what it actually dose that is why you have to do this sort of thing, to make sure it is going to be the right choice. you will help other people to in the longrun

There's a really good thread from Icemark about this and another discussion about it:
https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/those-think-i-dont-make-mistakes-those-know-better-foaming-frame-329353/
https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-gen-archive-72/foam-stiffening-whos-done-58231/

Here's the foam in question:
http://www.foamseal.com/auto_after_ordering.htm

There's some other foam that people have thought of trying, don't know if anyone's actually used it at all:
http://www.shopmaninc.com/foam.html

Sport Compact Car did it to their project 300ZX a few years ago with good reults:

That should give you some reading to do.

Check outhttp://www.fgci.com You can get different weights of foam, the lightest works fine for frame stiffening, it is very hard when cured. And they are in St Pete, Fl.
