Unhappy is this pinging? help please

Only when the car is cold, under low rpm light acceleration I think I hear pinging. I've only really noticed it after I installed a RB engine brace. It definately sounds like pinging, but could be a vibration I guess. How do I know? Can't feel it in the shifter, and it runs very strong after it's been warmed with no pinging at all.

I use 91 oct gas and have brand new plugs. The car is a tII bone stock correctly tuned (I hope).

How do I know for sure if it's a ping?

Check the brace and make sure everything is tight on it. That would be the first thing to do. Where exactly is the sound coming from can you hear a specific location?

I say no to your pinging. If it doesn't have detonation when warm, you won't experience detonation under light throttle on warm up. Could be combination of fast idle/RB engine brace. Disconnect engine brace and see if it is gone.

The sound is coming from under the hood (duh), I can't say exactly where, maybe driver's side.

It sounds like a light ping, is random, and only occurs when motor is warming up (at light throttle). I swithed to 91 from 89 octane and still heard it.

With these engines detonation is not a light pinging noise. If the motor detonates, you'll know it. It's unlike the piston engines you may be accustomed to, where you may hear some noise under heavy acceleration, but doesn't do any harm. Rotaries a different breed in that you don't get that piston rattle.

A torque brace will amplify even a slight miss.
The plugs were a good idea.
Maybe check the plug wires..

timing is a good idea. and make shure you use the L1 wire to use as a pick up. the wire you hook the timing light up to. thats where the ecu gets the tach signal from.

I doubt its detonation, especially sine you say its under light load...checks the basics like the boys said...plugs, etc...
