N/A owners: DIY smoothed 6 port sleeves

A lot of people complain about their 6 port sleeves, some people remove them, etc.
Well, if you are going to ditch the air pump for emmisions, you aren't going to have a way to actuate the sleeves.

They have such horrible flow anyways, with the right angle at the end of the sleeve.
Anyways, If you aren't going to have the sleeves actuated, a great way to increase air flow is to take out the middle crossbar, and to mold a bowl into the end of the port.
Pinapple makes inserts.. they are great, and cheap, but you get the same result by using high-temp epoxy.... I am a major DIY'er
Pluss, I took it a step farther by cutting out a thick piece of the tube, and knife-edging the sleeve ends.

Here's mine- I can finally take a pic since their not in my engine anymore! ( 4 port housings now...) The epoxy is not crunbling BTW, that's just a rough spot with some grease in it, they were in my engine for 6 months.
BTW.. anyone want these??? I don't need them anymore....

you migh want to add that only S5 cars need the air pump to actuate the ports. S4 cars use the exhaust back pressure.

True... slipped my mind, but by the same token on the S4's, do you want to keep power corked up by keeping a slightly restrictive exhaust on just for the sake of keeping your aux ports active?

This is a great mod for peak power, but your daily driving low end will really suffer.
You can still open the exhaust and work the Aux ports with the air pump.

Are you guys aware that the port inside the engine is smoothed out already, why waste your time to put these back in? and then mold them to look like the port already is, just larger.. it is by no means a sharp turn in there.

If i just remove the sleeves all together.. what will we be talking about?

Alittle less tourqe? How much high end gains are there. And what's the diff between removing them all together and getting the Pinapple racing sleeves (which i hear are very nice)

Thanks for the input

it works better, less turbulence, more flow@ higher RPM= more power and TQ...

There really is no ground breaking proof that it works better than having them in.... i.e. dyno sheets

exactly, i say leave them in and test it out, wire them open and feel any differences since its equivalent to taking them out, that way if it causing some torque/power issues you can reverse back to original.

I do recommend using the sleeves though.

Have you ever SEEN inside of one? The end is not only a sharp turn, it actually has kind of a lip. (without the sleeves) VERY bad flow!

i rember someoen doing a similar mod only using jb weld. The day after he posted his HowTo he posted a thread on how the mod came loose and killed his engine

seems a good idea to smooth them out, however i would weld something in there, make it more permenent

Why not do this and keep the actuators how they are? or are you too worried about the turbulance?
