Looking for a shift knob
Looking for a shift ****
Hey guys, Ive been shopping around for shift ***** because my stock one was a lil tattered and my cheap apc shift **** i have now just isnt doing the job. Im looking to buy something thats direct fit for my s4 that has good weight and wont put a dent in the 'ole bank. What do yall use or reccomend.
i use a white teflon shift ****, It gets way too hot here in cali for me to use any sort of metal shift **** during the summer. i personally haven't had any problems using an extremely light shift ****, i also have my shifter cut down to almost nothing and i still don't notice a difference. it also only cost 20 bux. most people don't want a white shift **** though
edit : what looks like stains on my e-brake handle and door panel are some sort of malfunction in my camera.

My buddy Acesanugal has a weighted Miata **** on his FC, and the one I have's from a 86 Corolla GTS. Mine sits lower than his, but doesn't have much weight. And both of these are on the stock S4 lever. Hope it helps

It screws on nice and low, looks clean, feels nice.

there 2 different things remello. what i made is a "short shifter" by shortening the rod, your making the lever shorter which does make the throw shorter but requires alittle more effort because your taking away the torque you get with a longer rod. a "short throw shifter" has a longer rod length between the large balljoint and the small one that goes into the housing and also a spacer. so the amount of torque you have moving it doesn't change
both do pretty much the same job, one is a cost free mod, the other is 150-200$
mines smooth as butter and my throw can't be more than 1 1/2"

pick up a s5 shift lever (probably get one cheap here on the forum), and you will have many more options...pretty much any mid-late 90s mazda. I was looking at the mazda3 ***** on ebay...they are simple, leather, and come in 2 or 3 different styles...or of course you can get an rx-8 **** with the rotor shape to it...i've heard these feel great and have a good weight...and of course any of them will thread onto the s5/FD threaded levers.
Mine is a RAZO. I believe that its made of aluminum. Its weight is very good and it works great. It came as polished aluminum and I powder coated it gloss black to match the interior. Sorry for the crappy phone pic.
It is true that the RAZO does get hot as hell when I put my top and windows up and the car sits out the 85-95 degree heat. However, when the top is down and the car sits in the direct heat, the shift **** does NOT get hot.
Maybe - but you need 5 times the force as anyone else, you have no shifter cover, and if you're not careful, your going to loose some skin. I can't imagine that being an upgrade.
"5 times more force" ??? nope almost exactly the same as stock
"you have no shifter cover" ?? i'm in the process of making a custom leather cover
"and if you're not careful, your going to loose some skin".?? wtf are you talking about???
i've been using this setup for a couple months with absolutely no problems, i can shift quicker, it looks better, and nobody has lost any skin.
so please keep your rude coments to your self, if you don't like something thats fine but the last thing we need is another ******* telling people there wrong when you have no idea what your talking about,
I do - because I tried it
It sucked. That 5x force thing, maybe a slight exageration but it's not close to stock and nothing is almost exactely the same. That's like saying $1 is almost exactely the same as $100 becuase they are both money, and they both have the digid "1" Here on planet earth the laws of math and physics are unavoidable and if you shorten your lever then you need to add more force - it's physics and it's law. In order to shift your tranny it will require substantially more force than mine. PERIOD I learned a long time ago that a lazy man works twice as hard as a hard working man. Case & point - I did that free mod. It sucked. I put the stock shifter back on for a while. Then I bought a MT short shifter from a buddy. I changed shifters 3 times, when once would've been enough.
