It might fit in better with a nice dark stain.

I have that exact same shift **** and I like it a lot. It's real comfortable, but I do have to be careful and wash my hands after I work on my car.

Heres a pic of a local member's RX7 with the RX8 ****, definitely makes me want one

does that mean a short shifter made for S5 will work with my S4?

My 1st RX7 was a '91 S5 and I bought a Mazdatrix short shifter kit for it. Worked great and I loved it. Wrecked it and bought an '87 S4 to replace it. Took the shifter kit out of the '91 and put it in the '87. Worked fine, but rattled dreadfully! Fixed the rattle with a rubber washer below the ball and now it works perfectly, and no rattle.

Go ahead and pick yourself out a nice Miata shift ****. The one I have feels great, fits in with the interior, has the right gear pattern, is weighted and at least for me, it was a free deal.
