I already did the search. Found out that the balljoint is part of the control arm and so the whole arm has to be replaced.

I just thought I would let people know it does happen, since most of the threads I found talked about how it rarely happens that a balljoin goes bad on our cars.

I am hoping to pick up an s5 arm for cheap and then just replace the dust boot.

You know the worst parts is that I had already sandblasted that bad boy and painted it so it would be nice and clean and neat when I put it back in.... and BAM bad balljoint after boot removal.

BAH!!!

s4 arms have a bracket that holds the sway bar on and the s5 attaches to the knuckle itself. I think thats what I read when I found out I had balljoint issues. I could be wrong tho, but I know there is a difference.

Because noone stocks the replacement balljoint for S5's.

I'm thinking of grabbing some S4's arms to use on my S5. I don't care for non-replaceable balljoints. And, with 16 years and 115k miles of use, I'd feel better with new balljoints instead of waiting for failure.

I just msged a couple people parting out cars and found a replacement arm for dirt cheap... plan on just cleaning out the old grease and repacking and replacing the dust boot cover. As long as the balljoint doesn't have signs of failure it is usually all good... my pass side control arm was in great shape, just needed to be regreased and have a new boot put on.

WTF that is insanity. How the hell did mazda make non replacable ball joints. Ive never hear/seen anything like that. Are you totally positive there not replacable? I mean where did you get your info?
Looking at those pics it looks like they can be removed with a ball joint press.

d00d the s4>s5 is all a matter of opinion.

I got my info about replacement of the balljoint from searching this forum... and I am sure if I wanna get an engineering degree and some other schooling I could replace the joint... but since this is like a life or death kinda thing (or atleast severe injury)... I think I am just gonna go with a replacement arm... its worth it to me.
