head lights not working

head lights not working
i have a 88 turboII
all the lights work except for the headlights. (running lights, turn signal, brake lights, dash lights)
so if i turn the lights on everything will come on except the head lights.
the funny thing is if i pull the dimmer switch it will turn the low beam on. but no hi beam. just on. the head light switch will turn it off
has anyone run into a similar problem?
is there a test to check if the head light switch is working?
