does cpu control running lights? (idiot lights)

hey, my running lights dont work on my 87 T2 so i cant drive at night and i REALLY need to be able to drive. i pulled out the cpu and checked out the solder joints and all of them seemed ok so i just resoldered the ones that had a little corrosion on them. if all of the solder joints on my cpu are cleanly soldered, what could be the reason for my running lights not to come on?

Parking lights (the lights at the four corners and sides) are controlled only by the headlamp switch.

The idiot lights are the warning lights in the middle of the dash.

The CPU does not control the parking lights. The Idiot lights also do not have anything to do with the parking lights, other than a feed for the dimmer in the clock whcih would have no affect on parking light operation.

If all the parking lights do not work (as covered in at least 50 other posts) then more than likely the headlight switch or harness to the head light switch has a burnt contact. This is more common on climates that have high humidity or very cold weather.

the clock module and CPU module do not interface directly.

Yep - headlight switch, that's a classic failure mode. As Icemark said, sometimes you can clean up the contacts at the plug to the switch - there's one wire that has a lot of current and will burn over time - but, many times, you're looking at a new headlight switch.

ok that sounds like an easy fix, but before.. when i was to turn the key's ignition to ON, the parking lights would come on. is that supposed to happen? and does my car being ag 87 t2 have anything to do with anything?

also, i blew the fuse for my main ignition somehow, so we took the fuse out of the retractors plug on the engine bay fuse box. could my own cheapness be why my parking lights arent turning on?

i took out my plug and it looks EXACTLY like that. however, there is no wire coming from the other side of the burnt contact... i'm thinking that this could be a little problem. but if there is no wire there, then why did my parking lights work last week? the wire didnt just disappear or anything

I had no parking, no side lights, no dash/gauge lights
and my high beams did not stay on hi.

New [used ebay] switch and cleaned connector. Now have lights still not hibeam which stay on...FTP works but highs drop back to low in about 1-2 seconds.

Installing new board in CPU today....more later.

Mine was like that on my old Rx7....and the previous owner was cheap and just had the side marker hot wired to the battery....so when you turned on your lights, you would also have to plug an alligator clip onto the battery.....it worked for the time being, until I went to the junk yard and got a new switch for $5.
