grommets

Well I have some 720cc injectors on the way. They come with new o-rings what I need to know is if I need to head to mazda to get new grommets or can I reuse the old ones? To be quite honest I don't know what a "grommet" is, lol. How much would they run anyways? Thanks.

You MUST replace the grommets. I cannot find my last receipt, but I believe the cost around $3 or under a piece. The old ones get hard and get compressed. They will not hold the injector in place properly. If you use the old ones, the injectors will not seat properly and will leak. You will notice that the injectors SIT tighter when you replace the grommets. Better to do it now then later.

Good luck

Yep, sounds good to me. I don't feel like taking my car apart again, lol. Its been sitting waiting to change the PD until I get my larger injectors.

Ok, now how many grommets do I need? I told Mazda I needed grommets for 2 injectors and they gave me 2 grommets. Now I looked on mazdatrix's website and it looks like I need an upper one and a lower one for each injector. Is this true? I haven't taken the car apart to get to them yet so thats why I'm not sure. Just would like to have all the parts I need when I go to do it. Thanks.

See thats what I thought it was for my car. The injectors come with the o-rings and I have 2 new grommets now. But look at this:

http://www.mazdatrix.com/c-6.htm

It says "Injector Grommets are the thick seal at the base of the injector and the dust seal at the top."

So does that mean it is just a dust shield on top? So it wouldn't be needed? Or I could reuse the old ones?

Recommend not reusing any of the old grommets or o-rings unless they are still in real good shape. To easy to get a fuel leak reusing an old piece of rubber. Its just good insurance and eliminates a possible problem area. From the Mazda dealership they are a little expensive but worth it knowing you will not have to remove them later.

You don't want to full around too much with fuel supply system. Get new grommets (lower and upper) and you'll have peace of mind.

New lower ones will mae sure you don't have vaccum leaks and the injectors are well seated.

The upper ones are dust shields. I think they'd also limit leakage if the upper o-rings were to fail (unlikely though).

You would think new injectors would come with the grommets. When I sent mine to get cleaned by marren motorsports, they came back with everything on them (new o-rings,grommets, and pintles)

ok ryde, that is right the upper grommet is on the injector body itself from what i can gather. do like all these good folks say and just get new ones upper and lower and new o-rings(i know this one) just to be safe.

Alright will do. My injectors should be here by this weekend. Do you know if the grommets are the same for both the upper and lower? If so can I just buy some universal ones for the top or what? Mazda didn't have anymore it seems a bit much for them to special order some cheap **** like that.

Just replace them all......order them from Mazdatrix if they have them in stock. They are MORE reliable then you local dealer.

You will notice when you place the grommets on the bottom of the injector they will be loose...that is fine, they will compress to fit properly and hold the injector properly in place.

Once you replaced them.....no future worries!

Good luck!
