does anyone use apex seal corner glue?

I am building my 13B...finaly. I read in the haynes manual that I need to apply some anearobic glue to the triangle piece and the sloped end of the apex seal. Is this needed? I don't have any on hand. What else can I use? There is this red stuff I found in the shop..... Also, the side seal springs sit with the ends up right? I could not find this on my video or in the haynes manual. My apex seals are Atkins.

i used super glue. It will work fine

the ends of the spring sit against the seals.

put the seals and the springs together. You can see how they are supose to sit.

the only time i ever glue tham is for ahlf-bridgeports where you have to put the rear apex seal in upside down.

i think it's a waste of time otherwise... not to mention it makes for harder initial startup and run... you have to wait until all that **** gets burned off for it to run decently.

The only port modification to this motor is the bridge between the 5th and 6th ports has been ground out. The ports are still divided, just the two ports merge into one large one at the chamber. It looks like a long 3rd and 4th port with slightly sqared off sides. It follows the exact shape of the stock ports.

i wouldn't bother gluing then
insert the apex seal, then the small spring, then the corner piece, then the big spring.

just make sure you're careful--they love to pop out and get lost.

yes one just shot out across the garage. I was about to have a heart attack until I found it.....In the frigin water jacket! This is my first engine build. I have watched the rotary aviation video several times and taken notes. I thought "oh this will be swell, we'll just tear it down, have a coke, clean it, eat dinner, put it back together, tell some jokes, and be done in time for corn flakes. WRONG! I have three motors. I still could not get a decent front housing out of any of them. hence the huge port. stuff is really hard to take apart, clean, keep up with, put back together, ect... now going on 4 days....but so close.

Yea those coorner pieces love to pop out when you least expect it. Once I was putting the rear together and "pop" right through the coolant passage so I had to take apart the fricken housings again.
Do your self a favor. Cover the passges with rags or something when putting in the apex seals and springs.

Agreed. It took 6 hours to put my engine together yesterday because the damn corner seals kept popping out (Rotary Aviation said "Don't worry, they'll stay." Right.).

I'd glue 'em in, it's a pain in the rear to start clamping the engine down, go "Hey... that's not right, that gap shouldn't be there..." and have to pull it apart and put it back together. Multiple times.

A touch of superglue would have saved us literally hours.

well if I don't spin it and just put it together, they should stay. Its just when you spin the motor, they work themself up and then pop out.

yea, that's happened to all of us... why do they always seem to go into the coolant passages? LOL

trick is to not turn the rotor at all when they're in there--which is kinda tricky when you drop the intermediate.

Even just the jolt of putting the housing on seemed to pop some free. Ah well, they're in now.

And yes, those coolant passages seem to have a "small things" magnet in them.

my first rebuild i droped a corner down a passage too

with the RA seals though you can put the corner pieces on last and just sit them there.

they will slide into place when you put the iron over them.

with the RA the rebuild is very easy. taking my time it only took 2.5hrs.

When I rebuilt my engine, I had one pop out of the last apex seal I installed on the rear rotor and go down into the tension bolt hole. It fell all the way to the front end plate (engine was face down on the engine stand). I had to take the entire back apart to get it out.

i sowwy. happened on my first rebuild too, but i luckily had one of those cheezy harbor freight pick up tools and was able to retrieve it...lucky me.

next time that happens, i'm gonna blow a shitload of compressed air down the holes and see if i can get it to pop out the front. but let's hope i don't have to.. heheheh
