Head Unit Questions RHD FD RX7

I'm looking to replace the Japanese Carrozzeria headunit, had some questions about the wiring. I'm new to wiring headunits, would I need to get an adapter or some kind of prewired harness to plug into a new double din head unit? What have you all been running in your FDs? I'm really looking for wireless Android Auto connectivity. Will be upgrading the OEM speakers to some kickers and add some under the seat hideaway kicker subs below the driver seat and passenger seat.

Yes you can get plug adapters like this one:
Amazon Amazon

Your new stereo (with a shallow mount stereo you'd have an easier time fitting it in) would come with its own connector with a bunch colored wires, you need to read the stereo manual and make appropriate connections for speaker wires through that adaptor above. Not sure about RHD speaker colors, but for LHD its here

Speaking of wires, you'd also need to connect to a constant 12v source, another wire switched 12v, and of course the ground to the metal part just behind the stereo.

You would probably need an amplifier too to have your speakers sound loud and clear. Alpine power pack (or Pioneer power pack) is a good choice, you can stash it in your glove box, it's small.

Once I used a Kicker hideaway sub under my DD sedans passenger seat. It was mediocre, so I sold it. In your case, I'd just utilize rear speakers as mids/sub but even without them you'd have plenty of bass from doors.

If you would have Bose and rear snake, you still could make it sound real good with aftermarket speakers, etc, but that's a different story.

Much appreciated for the info and direction to the wiring post, have you or anyone you know, used one of those Iso connectors that are already prewired? You'd connect the head unit to the Iso connector, then the iso connector to the stock harness.

Ok I see what you mean but unfortunately I haven't used such a harness, so can't say much. Hopefully someone else tried them already and will chime in )

I've used the harness that comes from Crutchfield to wire in my Kenwood touch screen. It all worked properly. My car is a 93 Type RZ.

Can't recall, but I'm going to be pulling it to install a new Pioneer unit later.

Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX from Crutchfield. I run the same head unit in my JDM MKIV Supra.

How well does the wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto work? This is one that is on my list to possibly purchase for two cars. I don't want to have to plug in my phone for car play to work

I have it in my Supra and it works flawlessly. Connects immediately without glitching.

awesome! Would love to hear how it turns out! Did you need to get any harness adapters or does the stock harness plug into the headunit?
