Head Unit Questions RHD FD RX7
Head Unit Questions RHD FD RX7
I'm looking to replace the Japanese Carrozzeria headunit, had some questions about the wiring. I'm new to wiring headunits, would I need to get an adapter or some kind of prewired harness to plug into a new double din head unit? What have you all been running in your FDs? I'm really looking for wireless Android Auto connectivity. Will be upgrading the OEM speakers to some kickers and add some under the seat hideaway kicker subs below the driver seat and passenger seat.
Yes you can get plug adapters like this one:
Your new stereo (with a shallow mount stereo you'd have an easier time fitting it in) would come with its own connector with a bunch colored wires, you need to read the stereo manual and make appropriate connections for speaker wires through that adaptor above. Not sure about RHD speaker colors, but for LHD its here

Speaking of wires, you'd also need to connect to a constant 12v source, another wire switched 12v, and of course the ground to the metal part just behind the stereo.
You would probably need an amplifier too to have your speakers sound loud and clear. Alpine power pack (or Pioneer power pack) is a good choice, you can stash it in your glove box, it's small.
Once I used a Kicker hideaway sub under my DD sedans passenger seat. It was mediocre, so I sold it. In your case, I'd just utilize rear speakers as mids/sub but even without them you'd have plenty of bass from doors.
If you would have Bose and rear snake, you still could make it sound real good with aftermarket speakers, etc, but that's a different story.
