audio system or not?

Does anyone have a GOOD system in their FC? If so, can you post pics of your setup? I'm trying to get an idea for my system if I decide to get one. Anyone?

Yeah, that's what I thought, about the box being too big and noticeable. I thought about maybe having custom boxes for the bins, but apparently the consensus is that the bins don't allow good bass response.

BTW- do you ever go to the Thursday shows by the Alehouse? I go, and there seems to be more FC's showing up. They're coming out of the woodwork! If I see you there, I would love to see and hear your system.

subs make all music sound way better! not just rap.

you don't need some huge 4 -12's box. but one or 2 is nice.

my "system" can be heard in socal - because i live in socal.

i'm perfectly happy with the factory system. i'm replacing the back speakers with larger ones since larger ones will fit, but aside from that i'm happy with the quality.

I used to run 2 Eclipse 15's in the hatch. Now that a few years have passed, I've since realised how stupid big systems are and have removed and sold it. Theres better things to spend money on, than big booming speakers that just make you look like a little whitey anyways. As far as slowing down, my car felt like rocket after removing all the extra weight that stereo provided. And, no, subs dont make all music sound better. Run a set of nice componant speakers and you'll get all the bass youll ever need and it'll sound real good, and not just like an obnoxious boom that drowns everything. Right now im running two pairs of 6 1/2 infinity kappa components off a 50 x 4 high end amp, and it sounds better than my subs ever did. So my opinion, nice sounding stereo= good. subs(system) = obnoxious and pointless

I'm not looking for a public address system for my car, just something that makes it sound better than the stock SE speakers. I think one or two subs would be alright, but only if it has a well-made box and won't draw too much of the wrong attention (ie- cops and theives). I think systems make a car slow and pointless(unless it's a turbo monster that can produce 400+ horsepower, like a skyline or something. I am just wondering what it would be like. I still want to use my hatch space for storage, too.

I have a nice sounding system in my S5 vert. I just have the sub pictured in the trunk. Theres barely any room in there so the IDQ (by image dynamics, maker of the IDMAX) is really the perfect sub for the application. ITs lightweight, small box (only requires .6 cu ft) barely adds any weight. IT doesn't require much power but it sounds beautiful. Its built for sq and its really musical. I habve a zapco studio 100x pushing it and bostons up front.

Check out elitecaraudio.com for stereo help. Look up IDQ on the forums and yojull hear some great stuff about them.

I voted for no system at all. All that stuff makes your car a bigger target for theft. probably the most often thing that is stolen around here from cars is the music stuff. Broken windows and hatch glasses are a pain to replace. Not to mention subs weigh a lot. The most i would do for the FC is use the stock mounting locations and get better speakers and get a hidden deck/changer. That would be enough IF I wanted to hear music.

Ya theres no real good way to hide amps and subs in the hatch. Maybe some limo tint or something. I personally just prefer high performance speakers and maybe an amp.

Thumbs up yeah do it

does you car have the rear seats or not? if not then build custom 10" sub boxes for where the cargo containers are. make the boxes have plexi on top so that you don't lose your "trunk" space and you can put stuff on top. for the amps... just mount them behind the seats. i unfortunately don't have a pic of my car but i have it set up for one 10" right now, on the left side. but this is just a suggestion. good luck!

with the correct box, 2 10"s can hit just as hard as 2 12"s could, especially for our small hatches. You just want a good amount of vibrations rolling forward from the hatch. so you angle them toward the glass and they will come forward nicely. 1 amp 2 10"s would be fine. Speakers always sound better in pairs so 1 12" would be just as hard hitting, but it wouldn't sound as good on non-rap songs. Go to a reliable car systems shop and ask them. They don't charge you for a consultation you know.

Just get a good deck, good speakers, and maybe a small sub.
And this is onyl if you cant live without music. Personally i feel that FC's are not meant for big sound systems. The weight of the car is extremly important.

Focus on driving more

everyone will have their own opinion on this subject. Yes it does weigh your car down (some systems more then others) but then again if you have a decent sub it will make music that much better. before buying amps and subs though get some new speakers. MB quartz are the best imo, but alpine and boston acoustics are very good too. if the speakers still isnt enough then go with the subs and amps idea. i want to get 2 10's in my car but i want them to b hidden which is as you kno pretty hard to accomplish.

two subs wont fit but a good place to hide one sub is in the back, get a small box and remove the spare tire, i had a 10" sub in my 7 like that for a while

i'd never put subs and amps in, that'd totally defeat the purpose of my weight reduction i have thought about getting some better than stock speakers however

if you have them go from the very back to partially wrap around the tube/tower thing. so it makes from halfway acrosst the tube/tower all the way back a straight line. it looks rather nice.

Subs sound great in these cars it won't take much to satisfie you if you put a good 8 in each bin with like 500 watts you'd be happy

All you really need to rock out is a nice deck, some nice 6" in the back and some 4" up front. Maybe 1 sub if you're really lookin' to put some bump in your trunk.

I don't really have what most people would call a "system" but it sounds pretty good on a budget. Here's what I got:

Aiwa CD head unit. Nothing fancy, but it puts out good quality sound.

4" Kenwood speakers hooked directly to the stereo. Picked em up on clearance, best 4"ers I've ever heard under $100.

500w Kenwood 4 channel amp. Again, nothing fancy here, but good quality sound. This is actually way more amp than I need, but the price is right. Speakers hooked up to the amp:

6 1/2" Kicker K60 speakers in the doors. These are decent although I eventually plan to replace them.

6 1/2" Rockford Fosgate speakers in the rear strut towers: Nice budget speakers, also picked up on sale.

10" Rockford Fosgate sub: Puts out a NICE sound. It won't rattle the neighbor's house, but it sounds damn good.

All together, a pretty nice sound, and loud enough that I can still hear clearly with the windows down on the highway. Of course, I'm not done with it yet, I want to figure out how to put some good tweeters in there too, but I'm going to work on fixing other things before I worry about more audio.
