ATF trick?
My friend told me about it, but I'm not too sure about doing it. I'm only getting 215 miles a tank. He said that would jump up once I do it because it cleans the carbon? Someone please explain the "trick" to me. The gas mileage is probably going to go back down to that after my...oh nevermind. Thanks people.

He is a really descriptive link! It works, and only takes about an hour to do, then wait for 24 hours for engine to clean! Make sure you have a new set of spark plugs before you begin! Do not install them until the project is finished, but the link will explain that!

I work at an auto parts store so I'm going to pick some up today. My motor has 130,700 miles and stills pulls strong. I hope it DOES work. Maybe she'll pull a little bit harder....

Yeah, I can personally tell you that it DOES work as well. My car runs 600RPM lower than it did before letting it sit with the ATF for a couple of days. So, in other words, the rotors revolve 600 less times every minute than before. Therefore, my engine is doing 600RPM less work to produce the same power.

"I ahve 150K on motor, 70K the past 2 years. I redline it everyday. Is there a reason for me to do that?"
Yeah, why not. There has got to be at least some carbon deposits built up inside your engine. Probably more than mine had and it helped out mine quite a bit. The detergents in the ATF do a hell of a job of dissolving the carbon deposits.
and YES, this works on 3rd gens. Same engine pretty much with the exception of the turbos and a couple of other slight differences. Hell, it will work on a piston engine...

Wait until it's time to change your oil b4 you do the ATF. Get a new set of plugs, too.

My reason for changing the oil after the ATF trick is that when I did it my idle got really lumpy after. I changed plugs, but still lumpy. Someone on here sugegsted that I should change my oil because some of the ATF fluid could get mixed in with it.
Well, I changed it and my idle was back to being smooth again.

I'm not going to wait another 2k miles just to do the ATF. I need to do it NOW. I'm pretty sure that you're not supposed to change the oil prematurely, but I'm going to do it anyway...
