Question Possibly screwed up ordering a new fuel pump

Was perusing the forums for a fix, takeoff from 0 mph gives a little hesitation as if it isn't getting enough fuel, sure enough found someone somewhere say my 30 year old fuel pump probably needs to be replaced. Figured it would be a good idea as the vacuum lines were replaced earlier this year and it's the cheapest thing I figured to do since I noticed a big drop in economy (14 combined vs 18 last month). Looking around some said to get a stock one and others said a Walbro 255 would do the trick and allow for future modification, so I ordered that and picked up a Bosch universal O2 sensor, too. Now having received it:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/171155381796?item=171155381796&viewitem=&vxp=mtr
Reading about it I've found that apparently without some very out of-my-league changes it's going to cause the engine to run rich, given that the stock FPR won't recognize the increase in pressure. I've never actually replaced a fuel pump before and haven't had much luck finding definitive info on it, but I know how to get to it and I've never had a problem with wiring. Is there something I can do to accommodate this pump, or is there a different one I should order instead and attempt to return this one? My specs are as follows:

1988 Vert NA, purchased April 2015
100,000 mi at the time
108,xxx currently
No aftermarket parts AFAIK

Before I took ownership:
New vacuum lines
New spark plugs
POSSIBLE d-cap and rotor, not sure I believe him but no problems as of yet
Basic checks done by PO's personal mechanic, car is certainly safe to drive

Work I've done/plan to:
New brakes/rotors following a minor accident due to PO's omission of brake condition
Checked by shop, still safe post-collision
*Almost New* TEIN Flex coilovers courtesy of RXSpeed16
New battery
Updated stereo, 2 dash 2 door 1 10 inch sub + amp
New fuel filter
New check valve (failed evap pressure test the first time)
2 oil changes, currently on non-synthetic 10-40 (side note, best rating for AZ-CA car? Next oil change soon)
Alternator on the way
Full RB exhaust planned later this year

So yeah. I spent a good while looking but I've been known to miss very informative threads, on the off chance there's not one, can anyone confirm that this pump is OK to use and/or do I need to order anything else to make it work properly?

What made me worry was a slip in the package saying:

****ALL GSL392 PUMPS****
You MUST run a HIGH volume filter BEFORE pump. I recommend Napa 3310 for 5/16 line and 3482 for 3/8 line these are cheap high volume filters

Which led me to find the thread noting the problem with it running rich.

I think the main issue is that you have an in-line fuel pump unit, and not an in-tank unit. I have a Walbro 255 in tank with the install kit for my '88 vert, and all I had to do was upgrade to a universal adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator and remove my stock unit. I also completely rewired the pump with a relay, a large power wire direct from the battery (with a fuseable link) and used the stock wire as a "trigger" for the relay. I can give you more details on all of this if needed.

or send them all back and buy an OE replacement pump, there is NO REASON TO PUT A WALBRO 255 OR HIGHER RATED PUMP IN AN N/A CAR! THESE PUMPS ARE FOR CARS RUNNING UP TO 400WHP AND THE RESULTING PRESSURE RISE WILL JUST WASTE FUEL AND RESULT IN LESS POWER, KILL THE PULSATION DAMPENER/FPR QUICKER AND CARBON UP YOUR ENGINE.

the threads pertaining to upgraded pumps are for turbo cars only or HIGHLY modified n/a. anyone who has ever said it is a good choice for a stock non turbo car should just be banned for idiocy from the forum.

there is few upgrades to an n/a that warrant anything more than a stock pump short of nitrous.

Yeah, mine is an NA engine with a turbo slapped on it, so a bit of a bastard child.

Possibly screwed up ordering a new fuel pump

I agree with lyger, if your that worried about fuel on an n/a just goto a turbo pump, walbros are made for fuel hogs, which an n/a isn't......even though it doesn't smell like it

As stated before, that's an in-line pump, so it won't mount in the stock location. Check out Rock auto for a stock replacement pump.
Hope you're enjoying the coilovers.

Why go to a turbo pump rather than the n/a spec one? I wouldn't say I'm worried about fuel I just want the proper AF ratio for mpg and to fix the throttle hesitation.

@everyoneelse gotcha, definitely my bad not having read more beforehand. Thank you very much, I'll see what I can do about returning the Walbro and picking up the proper pump.

*EDIT*
Bosch 69407 from RockAuto, looks like the right one. Should probably replace the strainer too, yeah?

Still feels like a new car. It's so low the only way I could drop it any more would be serious camber, will post pics after I get the hood taken care of!

I must have been watching an install video on an S5 or something because it looked like the pump would slip right in.
