because 3 is better than 2! Duh!

Seriously guys.. obviously some people don't know their *** from their elbow when it comes to rotaries. I'm trying to quench my thirst for more knowledge about them constantly. So the guy dosn't know, give 'em a break. Does it really bother you that much, I mean, it can't be the first time you've seen something like that...

thnx man....I know a pretty good bit about the rotories...but I have a hard time trying to figure out why there's 4 plugs and a 2rotor....but I guess more plugs=more fire=more fuel burnt=more power!

Basically it is to ensure that all the fuel is completely combusted. There are leading and trailing plugs, which fire right after another (kinda) to see that all of the fuel in the combustion chamber is used. On the 4 rotor, is was a high revving race engine, which used more fuel and needed more spark to combust it all properly, so the 3 plugs were needed. Im sure someone else could give you a much more in-depth explination, just trying to give you the jist of it..

You see this kind of stuff all the time in used sales. It's mostly private dealerships doing all the violating of reason it seems. I expect no less. That's what makes us a unique bunch though. It's kind of neat that people are so in the dark about the engine. It's bad however for the future of our beloved 7.

R26b (peri port) best known as the LeMans winning engine, indeed had 3 plugs per housing.

Cool fact: Chevy experimented with 3 and 4 rotor 'vettes back in, I think, the '70s.

Tell me about it. I was looking at a '93 before I bought my '86 and the salesman tried to explain the lack of oil pressure registering on the guage by saying that the car didn't have an oil pump, and that the oil was circulated by the rotors flinging it. I hate car salesmen.

Also, unfortunately Mazda is starting with the RX8, but there is a rumor circulating that Mazda is bringing the RX7 back around 2005 or 2006, tentatively based on the popularitry of the RX8. This was in the Car & Driver a few months ago. I can supply an issue number later.

Well I would expect the chasis code to be FE as the FD is being discontinued this year in Japan.

Also expect a turbo version of the new 250 hp NA engine to power it.. I would expect a whole new cooling system as well.

When/if the RX7 comes back, it will be powered by a NA variant of the Renesis putting out about 280 HP...Yes, 1.3 L putting out 280 HP!?! I hope the curve doesn't suck. And yes, the FD is finished this year. they look bad-*** too...

/me drools!

I have also heard rumors of the Supra coming back in Road and Track, but the pic they had was ugly as hell.

If they are even considering a return of the 7 within the next 3-4 years, we should be seeing a concept car chicago (North American Int'l Auto Show) next year at the latest. Really, it should have already been there. 280 ponies and a lot ligher frame the 8 will be required to even start competing with the 350Z. 281hp, smaller and presumably ligher than my FC, and complete with fully variable valve timing for a more linear power band. If the build and sell it for less than the 8, we'll be seeing lots of new 7's on the road. The 350Z is priced comprably to the projections for the 8, so a two seater rotary should be less expensive and out perform the Z.
