Once you learn how to heel/toe, dog-ring trannies are much better suited for downshifting than a synchro tranny. They can also be shifted up/down without the clutch. They are loud and clunky though...just the sounds of a nice positive shift
A 7000 rpm 'shift cieling' is quite a compromise imho.
I guess I'm thinking race track though.
Nice tranny btw.
Pricing?

The main point of the guru box which I think to be the only weakness is the input shaft. It is stronger than the factory one, but due to the size constraints of the input shaft, they just go any larger. Rohan is already making a direct replacement upgrade (which is in the works) to resolve this input shaft problem. The problem exists, but at a minor level (well, at least when considering what I will use the car for). Out of 80 boxes they have built, only two input shafts have broke. These were from cars running low 8 second quarter mile figures, with huge slicks.

There shouldn't be a worry about the factory casing, for it is girtled for the extra strength. They have yet to have a problem with the case. The gears are very strong, and the only potential worry that I have at this point is the input shaft. But, I have to look at the usage of the vehicle as well which fit my needs. I do not have a tubbed RX-7 and Ford 9" rear which I can put massive slicks on, which was the case in both failures of the input shaft (tubbed / live axle / huge slicks).

You mentioned noise being a factor as well. This makes me wonder, how quiet do you think the car will be? Mine isn't that quiet, and between the exhaust note & fuel pumps, whats another cool sound of an electric drill coming down the road?

yeah, i guess your right about the sound issue...Its not a cadillac we are building!

I am not trying to cut up your decision of the Guru box as they are the simplest solution that works and is bolt in.....
I guess i am just trying to make something one off to be unique and difficault to copy!

RXHeaven, the price is like $3000 for a full replacement trans brand new!
Liberty actually buys brand new tremec 3550 transmissions and disassembles them to install all new internals with gears they make from the strongest material!

Talking Trans

The Tremec TKO is a good choice.

Is the Tremec able to handle high rpm shifts?

Only when syncronizers are replaced with there face tooth design which liberty offers as i believe an exclusive!

There are not to many syncronized transmissions that like high rpm shifting as i was told!

Well, after about 10 months+ of looking i finally picked the body parts to go on my project car... Believe me it was not easy so please take it easy on the negative comments.

I wanted a larger opening for the intercooler and a vented hood to help with heat extraction and also aiding in pulling the air through the intercooler and radiator!

The wing is just to make the front end not look out of place as the car is no sleeper with the bright cym yellow roll cage showing through the windows!

I pretty much did not like any of the body parts offered for the FD over the stock parts but was forced to pick the parts that i disliked the least!

All parts are coming from Japan as i believe they have a better quality than the copies made in other places!

Here is the Sexy Style bumper similar to the C-west!

Here is the RE-Amemiya AD-9 Hood i orderd in fiberglass since it will be painted!

And the Mazda Speed wing which was discontinued recently!

Any one know of a picture of a car that has both the RE AD9 style hood and the sexy style front bumper both installed on the same ca? I want to see what they look like as a pair but don't want to wait!

Also any suggestions for a set of side skirts i could use..

I am leaning towards the carbon fiber lips from FEED which are not really a side skirt..

I would install a carbon lip to the bottom of the front bumper to match these side skirts if i go with them..

Here is a picture of the Feed Carbon side

I would actually consider these as a side skirt but i am not sure what they would look like up against the stock front fenders..

Also the rear needs molded in and shaved down a little so they are a little more tapered off!

I would also be worried about molding them in to the fenders since the fender is not a part of the body and would probably end up cracking! (any suggestions?)

I like that side except for where it goes on the fender and changes the look of the fender vent!

I like it very much , the only but is the price , and that they are in japan.

They are the best of the best, in body kits for the FD3S

Well, since it saves on freight greatly shipping from over seas, i added the SexyStyle side skirts onto my order already coming with hood, bumper and wing.

I will post some pics and info on fitment once they come in!

I am actually considering buying the sexy style fenders although i am nervous of the fitment of any aftermarket fender.......Hoods, wings, bumpers, etc i could live with but rarely find a fender that fits right!

i second the feed sides. i love the look of them and will be getting a set for my car when i start doing body mods. i would probly already have them but i'm a firm believer in go before show. i also think the cwest bumper might look a little better. the side openings on that one are a little to big for me. i do dig the hood though.

I want to post some pics but wow! The gorage, the car and everything around is a mess!

I am making a template off of the stock sub frame mounting locations and will be starting my new chromoly frame in a couple of days! (Thanks to the arrival of my new plasma cutter)

The new sub frame will be made of chromoly plate and tubing! Also look for something original and real trick! (I will integrate the front sway bar mounts in with the frame and tie it all together for extra strength!)

If there is any interest in a chromoly total replacement sub frame to fit the 20B with stock 20B mounts, I am considering building a few to sell by request!

The feed sides are still not out of the question as it was my first pick but i ordered the SexyStyle fiberglass side skirts for now as i believe they will look better once molded on!

If they don't look right on the car i will not mount them and will re-consider the carbon fiber feed sides!

OK i am definetly a newb when it comes to the 20B into FD swap but besides being slightly stronger, what other advantages does your subframe have?

Can you not use current 20B subframes with the stock 20B mounts? I'm just trying to visual whats going on in my head. AutoIllusions, get some pics up as soon as you can. I'm dying to see the car

Stronger yes, being made of chromoly it can be stronger and lighter using a thinner wall tubing! I am also using tubing because it looks better and is stronger than square stock!

Yes, some frames you can and some others use the 13b mounts which require special oil pan and 13b back housing![/quote]

I will post some pics up today but only of the jig, i will not start the new sub frame until next week!

Well, here are the pics requested!
I am still in the test fitting process so the motor is out once again!

Here are a few pics of the sub frame jig i made!
Look for some high quality chromoly sub frames that will be up for sale in the near future! Maybe even a group buy if i can see enough interest!

Here is a pic showing the sway bar mount which i am going to incorporate into the design!

And here is the jig completed with the modified motor mount locations and steering rack!

The GTB88 Finally arrived!
Black ceramic coated turbine housing with 132 exhaust AR.

Check it out next to my GT80R which was originally supposed to be used!

I like how much larger the exhaust turbine is!

Damn!... this car is going to be something else... few questions if you don't mind...
How much time have you invested into your car? man hours?
How much $$$ invested? if you don't mind...
I know you're going for show/street with this monster...so what colour are you going for? or are you going to keep it as it is? Sound System?
Keep up the good work....and good luck with all your projects...
