1000 HP 20B Street Car Project

I finally learned how to host pics so they show up on a forum.

I am going to post some pics here and there along with comments to show the progress of the car.

It started out as a 93 CYM with 19k original miles.

I purchase the car from florida as it had a complete TKT Pettit package installed.

I tried to find the lowest mileage CYM car i could get so i had a solid base to start with, even though the car is getting ripped to shreds with barely any stock parts left.

I used to have those wheels on my car .... I wonder if Pettit used to push those wheels?? Car looks good. You will have at least the 3rd CYM 20B I have seen. I want to do mine someday. Maybe we'll start a www.cym20b.com website!

very nice , engine pics please....what kind of turbo are you thinking of running??
since it looks like you are building the ultimate ....why dont you also get one of those carbon fibre rear hatches??saves some weigth there too

Auto Illusions 06-10-04 10:31 PM

i am actually not trying to save on weight to much.

Mine main goals are a show car with a ton of power and a functional chasis.

The car has brembo 14" front and 12.9" rear custom brake kits.

JIC FLTA-2 coil overs
mazda comp hollow front and heavier rear sway bars

power steering, heat and A/C are to be kept since it is a street car!

A full stereo system with sub and amps since i own and operate a performance/audio shop and the car is to be used as a demo car for all we can do for a customer.

full interior with custom fiberglass rear section.

streetable and driveable!

Any way, here is a pic of the last time the motor was in the car. It is actually at Headway Performance right now being built with all new internals, pinned and a killer race port!

Headway Performance is one of the best places for rotary engine porting. He uses a flow bench to test all his port work, not just the grind and hope theory! http://www.auto-illusions.com/rx7/images/DSC00968.JPG

Here is a picture of the turbo side. It is an innovative GT80R dual bb, water cooled. I am actually considering selling the turbo, manifold and down pipe and set it up with a larger turbo. The only thing that will make the decision for me is if the turbo can not support the 1000hp goal for the car.

Here is a picture of the 4" center pipe where it splits into dual 3" for the dual 3" thermal mufflers.

We fabbed and welded all of the exhast at our shop here from the header back.

The header is made from 321 stainless and the 4" and back all from 304.

Here is what it takes to supply fuel to a hungry engine on a street car!

Also notice the new centered design to allow dual mufflers, one on each side!

There are 6 total one way check valves that keep the center chamber full of fuel at all times. The center of the tank actually fills up every time you make a turn rather than loosing fuel and causing fuel starvation!

I am running a single aeromotive 11104 with an aeromotive fuel controller to keep the fuel temps down.

All buttened up with an electronic fuel sender, pump power plug, -10 feed, -8 return, -8 rollover vent and a one way rollover fill valve.

You bought that car off of an old man that lived somewhere near Palm City didn't you? Had a few Mercedes, and a Z06?

onefastrx7turbo 06-11-04 12:24 AM

nice manifold! who made your exhaust manifold?

Auto Illusions 06-11-04 12:28 AM

flew down from pa and bought the car. Got a temp tag from florida and drove the car home. 19k original miles on it in 10 years time and it never missed a beat the whole way home.

I did not drive the car after i got home, just tore it apart as i already had big plans for the project car!

now that i am into it. I should have bought a high mileage car for a lot less to start with!

He was actually the mayor of Palm Beach florida and was very cool. It had a complete TKT Petit package installed by cam.

I cant wait to send him pics of the car finished.

How did you know?

Here is a pic of the car when i got home with the temp tag in the window. "notice the sheriffs badge on the bumper" I'll bet he never got a ticket and it wasn't because he didn't drive it hard.

He did have a z06 and a mercedes in the gorage.
