[23:02] peejay's secret borrowed ID: so as it turns out my rear shocks are not acting as bumpstops
[23:02] j9fd3s: no?
[23:02] peejay's secret borrowed ID: they will compress 7 inches from static ride height
[23:02] peejay's secret borrowed ID: the axle hits the body (no bumpstops) in only 5
[23:02] j9fd3s: ok
[23:02] j9fd3s: so you have 2 inches "extra" ****?
[23:02] peejay's secret borrowed ID: furthermore, there is only an inch of droop travel in the rear
[23:03] j9fd3s: ok
[23:03] peejay's secret borrowed ID: so i have come to three conclusions
[23:03] peejay's secret borrowed ID: 1: holy crap
[23:03] j9fd3s: so you need to space the shocks down a tad
[23:03] peejay's secret borrowed ID: 2. need bumpstops
[23:03] peejay's secret borrowed ID: 3. space shocks upwards on axle
[23:03] peejay's secret borrowed ID: keep from dragging 'em on crap, you see
[23:03] j9fd3s: yah
[23:03] peejay's secret borrowed ID: with only 6 inches of travel, it may be advantageous to just use osme shorter shocks on top of the axle...
[23:04] j9fd3s: yah
[23:04] peejay's secret borrowed ID: but still: holy crap
[23:04] j9fd3s: haha
[23:04] peejay's secret borrowed ID: 200lb-in times 5 inches times two equals i could practically sit the weightr of the car on the rear end
[23:04] j9fd3s: lol
[23:04] peejay's secret borrowed ID: so the car is sitting at a nice stance, but the front has little compression and the rear has little rebound ???
[23:05] j9fd3s: lol
[23:05] peejay's secret borrowed ID: i am making my upper link out of 1x.062 square tubing
[23:05] j9fd3s: oOoo
[23:05] peejay's secret borrowed ID: using energy suspension bushings instead of rod-ends
[23:05] j9fd3s: cool
[23:06] peejay's secret borrowed ID: .062 thickness exhaust tubing to put the bushings in
[23:06] peejay's secret borrowed ID: will also be backed by a wrap of .125 strip going from the bar, around the tube, and back to the bar
[23:06] j9fd3s: cool
[23:06] peejay's secret borrowed ID: kind of an overkill strip
[23:07] j9fd3s: thats ok
[23:07] j9fd3s: we're after strong
[23:07] peejay's secret borrowed ID: and i will be attaching it all to 22 gauge floorpan
[23:07] peejay's secret borrowed ID: (hmmm)
[23:07] peejay's secret borrowed ID: the hard part is attaching it to the floor
[23:07] peejay's secret borrowed ID: since the area where i want the pivot is several inches aft of the convenient crossmember
[23:07] peejay's secret borrowed ID: and the pivot location is *in* the floor
[23:08] j9fd3s: ah
[23:08] j9fd3s: lol
[23:08] peejay's secret borrowed ID: lik, in the middle of the sheetmetal of the hump
[23:08] peejay's secret borrowed ID: i cut the top piece of the hump out already
[23:09] peejay's secret borrowed ID: and it wants to be *in* there... how do i build into that?
[23:09] peejay's secret borrowed ID: it will be ugly or weak or both
[23:09] j9fd3s: lol
[23:09] j9fd3s: can you space the huemp?
[23:10] peejay's secret borrowed ID: well, here's my thinkin'
[23:10] peejay's secret borrowed ID: i cut the hump down further
[23:10] peejay's secret borrowed ID: deeper than where i want the pivot to be, see
[23:10] j9fd3s: yeah
[23:11] peejay's secret borrowed ID: weld a strip of flat stock over the new hole, level with the ground, and hammerform it down to weld it to the remains of the hump
[23:11] peejay's secret borrowed ID: THEN... weld angle iron to that level section
[23:11] peejay's secret borrowed ID: THEN... weld the pivot bracket to that
[23:12] peejay's secret borrowed ID: THEN... reinforce the crossmember, reinforce the new bracket to the crossmember, beefulate to the floor fore of the crossmember, triangulate to the crossmember aft of the pivot (the one the springs seat on)
[23:12] j9fd3s: haha
[23:12] j9fd3s: just make lots of triangles
[23:13] peejay's secret borrowed ID: (you can tell when i get deep into a fangle when i use words like beefulate)
[23:13] j9fd3s: haha
...this is where i'm at.

new title for the forum
We should rename this section "Grumpy Old Men"
Uh try I am spending more time on the car(s) right now (until I run out of cash again)
But I still take time to read some of the posts, as they are very entertaining.

Yes Im a "newbie".... sort of. I have been in and under my car since I got it, yet still have to sign on and ask/answer questions. Also, getting another group in my battalion ready for war, very time consumiing since I am responsible for most of these guys. I still try to sign on as much as possible. Have a good one!

I've been figuring out what I'm gonna do with a pile of cash, some parts that're sitting in the back of my truck, and one beat FB that's been sitting for years.
Anyone have a garage nearby that they wouldn't mind me in for all odd hours of the night?
Aside form that, I hang in the lounge.

Admittingly (sp?) I haven't been here too often. I pretty much finished my FB, just need to fix some dents. Plus the fact I've been really busy at work. But yeah, I do notice it a lot slower here nowadays.
