Easiest to buy a complete disc rear end. The drum rears don't have the mounting bracket for the calipers. I think the axles and diff carrier are also different. 99.9% of people just swap in a disc rear end. "Outer" parking brake cable is a different part too.

What year is your car? The '84 / 85 cars (series 3) had different axles than the earlier 79/80 & 81-83 cars (S1 & S2). (different disc rears and different drum rears, year by year)

Yeah but think about it, the drums are just fine if you're not out on the race track overheating them.

So do you really need discs in the rear for driving around town?

I kept my drums in the LE. Cheap rebuild, work great, they actually brake better than the discs.

And they are very cool too.

You’re right. I recently broke my stock diff so I bought a 84 gsl diff but I can’t find any rear calipers at all so I’m probably just gonna use the drums on the new diff. Thanks for the help guys appreciate it

It's a long shot and not cheap, but I found this link for a Canadian supplier that seems to still stock the 84/85 GSL rear calipers:

You will also need to backing plates. The "hard" part about the backing plates is that the collar needs to be pressed off the axle to replace them. This doesn't matter if you already have disc axles. Do you have disc brake axles?

And like said before, the parking brake cables that attach to the calipers and fish through the frame.

Okay so I have an 84 gs which comes with an open diff and drum brakes but since I blew that diff I bought a diff that came out of an 84 gsl with discs so I just bought the calipers from Canada. And for the e brake cable situation do you have any suggestions as of where I can find some?

The left and right side are different. With this said, rockauto has the left (RAYBESTOSBC93303Element3). Might try the For Sale section and place a Wanted To Buy once your post could is 10 or over.

Make sure your looking for the GSL model.

Kev, I have the GSL ebrake cables in good shape out of an 84/85 GSL if you want to get them used, $25 shipped for the pair.

Let me know if interested, I'll dig them out of the parts shed and send you some pictures.

There's also another cable that runs from the ebrake lever back to the two ebrake cables, I'm not sure if that's GSL-specific but I should have that too.

My FB disc-axle-swap used the existing SA front cable that ties to the 2 off the axle, FWIW...

I ordered them last weekend and they just sent me an email saying they couldn’t source them so it looks like I’m back to square one
