TII exhaust manifold question.
Ok so i have been told that only a SE 13b front cover will make it possible to put a 2nd gen engine into a FB, however i am seeing here: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ale+13b+intake That a 12a front cover will work and all i need is the SE pan and pickup tube.... Is this true?
And my second question is about T2 exhaust manifolds.. I see the cast iron S5 manifolds out and about, but i hear they crack alot and are getting harder to come by.. I also see that there are stainless "custom" ones being sold as well... Which is the better set up to run.. I know they run hot, very hot, but is that too much for the stainless, or is there a flow issue with those- i know that with headers the tubes must be the same lenght, is that an issue with these as well?
What are your thoughts on the difference between the two, for or against? Why?
THANKS!

If you are running premix, then just go for the 12A cover. Then you just need the SE pan and pickup.
For the mounts, you have a few options:
- GSL-SE cross memeber
- 12A/13B mount from RB or Mazdatrix
- slot a 12A setup
There are some threads floating around for the different options. If you can track down some SE parts, I would install the GSL-SE fuel system (hardlines, tank, filter, and pump). Good way to make sure you have the capacity needed for the TII.

yeah i am upgrading to stainless lines, a new pump, and was thinking about the tank as well, as i am sure the sunding unit would be a bit nicer than my stock gsl's. Thanks!

So about the manifold question, i have not heard anything from anyone about it. I need to know which is the best buy and why it is..
Should i get a aftermarket one like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/86-92...item2c4e554651
Or a stock s5 manifold?

Cast iron manifolds are generally more durable than fabricated (tubular) ones, while the fabricated manifolds generally perform better (increased flow, lighter weight). Fabricated manifolds are also generally more expensive, since it takes a lot of hand work to make and finish them properly. I made mine, and it took many hours.
I wouldn't buy a fabricated manifold off eBay. Do a search and read the horror stories.

The tubular headers depend a lot on the material used and the quality of the welds. Keep in mind that our exhausts tend to see hotter temperatures than most piston engines and as such the product needs to be tailored to those needs.
The material and gauge used is important, my RE Header uses 1/8" (12 Gauge if I remember right) steel tubing which probably will not get burned out anytime soon, while maybe a stainless steel could use a slightly thinner tubing. Also how well the welds are done matters as well. My RE Header has nice MiG welds that have good fusion and a proper bead which means that the weld's integrity is going to be very good.
The Ebay Headers I would be very very cautious with, make sure you can get the specs of the material used and thicknesses so you can see if it is too thin or not.
Feel free to correct me if I am wrong here, just starting to study my exhaust design as I build it so I may have some misconceptions.

the only trouble is that the s5 manifold only fits an s5 turbo.
