Question More air...

I have the stock carb and i need to get more air into the carburetor. how can i do this without taking off the entire air filter assembly? i don't have acces to any real metal machining so i can't make something. i already have nearly 20 holes drilled on the underside of the air filter box(dunno tech term) around the edge of the air filter. I can just hear it dieing for air. my friends can hear it too. it kinda bogs down a lil when i don't get a good fuel to air mixture because of lack of air. it is terrible when it is 100+ degrees and very good with 75 and below degrees. also, my carb idles pretty low. it runs really well but idles at around 5-700 rpms. it isn't much of a problem. i just rev to about 1000 right before i take off for city driving.

i hope i didn't just confuse the hell out of all of you. but, i need some advice. i'm not looking to spend a whole lot of money(maybe $100-150)seeing as its my senior in high school and i'm saving for my down payment on my graduation car. any advice for any or all of the above would be appreciated! thank you guys.

you can make close to 200hp easily with the STOCK unhacked air cleaner.

it is not a restriction.

The cold air flap assembly in the air horn is a dyno-proven 4% restriction, believe it or not...

i used to use the 6 5/8" chrome air cleaner found at autozone or advanced, and it comes with a black plaslic adaptor that will fit the stock carb. it made a world of difference over the stock air cleaner.
