I never thought I'd be in this section... new FB!
So you have to remove the idler arm in order to replace the bushings? I guess so because you probably can't pull that pin down far enough to slip the lower bushing on without disconnecting the ball joint. Brett you may want to use a puller instead of a pickle fork for that one, the fork will damage the rubber boot on the ball joint.

Just a quick question- whenever the FB sits for a few days, it doesn't want to idle very well until it's been driven a good 45 mins/ hour. Is this just because it's been sitting, or is there something common that makes them do this?
Sure come on out Brett, we'll have an idler arm party if my Moog one comes in by then. Sunday is best. That idle problem could be several things (anybody know exactly?) but we can check some things, timing, carb, fuel delivery, plugs, cap, wires etc.
seems an awful long time before it will idle. usually when you see a no idle issue on an older engine, you just have to wait until it reaches normal operating temp before it'll idle properly.

I am tellin you, from experience, I am an avid fan of the FB. I just recently bought a FC vert, and the troubleshooting on it is terrible, can be 1 of a million things wrong, and thats just for the idle! I do love the simplicity of the FB
As for the idle issue after sitting a few days, I have discovered its has to be the attitude of the car, she is meant to be driven and does not like neglect! So I work out of town alot, so I leave my car a my parents house for my dad to start her and drive her around the neighborhood, every other day
LOL! sorry for the non technical advice, but haven't found a better way, she is a spoiled rotten B%#*&! I won't even get into the jealously issues she has about the other women in my life LMAO! I buy something for my other 7's, she will run like **** till I buy her something LOL!

Ian is on to something Brett, the FB does not like you messing around with the FC all the time, she gets jealous. Let an FB sit for more than a few days and she's bound to give you trouble just out of spite.
So the FB's got a new(er) set of plug wires on it, along with some tighter screws holding the top of the carb to the lower half. We set the idle again, added the new idler arm bushings, and adjusted the trailing timing (I think
). Fun day. I'm going to drive the FB this week back and forth to school, so she'll get a little more attention now. Poor FC

It actually runs a lot smoother, but it still hesitates a bit when it's at idle and you give it some gas. You've got to either stab it or go slow when it's cold, and sometimes when it's warm it's not as fussy. I've been driving it for the past few days though and it is getting better the more I drive it. Sadly, the FC wants back out. And I'm starting to miss the A/C
Thanks for the help everyone, too.

That I will- I've got a uncle in Alabama that I actually got my first FC from, and I see him all the time. You wouldn't happen to know the guy in Theodore with the yard full of FB's and FC's, would you? He's not my uncle, but my uncle knows him and always says he'll never sell **** but would help you fix anything rotary-related.

That's how mine acts. I usually let it warm up before i drive it then i'll have no problems. If i drive it cold, it'll always idles funny and wants to die.
So here's the latest on the FB

It's a great delivery car
I ordered the part to make the turn signals cancel themselves out Tuesday too, so that should be in tomorrow or so. Yep!

Yes it is!!! I've delivered for 10yrs at Papa John's, been through 4 vehicles. My 1st delivery car was an 83 GSL That was my 1st fb, and by far, my favorite delivery vehicle. I shoved a 70 pie in there once. 220k was the ending mileage...tranny went out.
I skipped out on delivering in the FB and went in the FC tonight since it was raining and the FB has no defrost and the sunroof leaks. As soon as I got back from my first delivery I got bitched at for being in my loud car again

So that's probably why I was able to do that...

I remember having to answer for those calls. I had a header and a glass pack on my first fb. People hated it. I did too, after a while...
