FC s5 interior into s4
okay probably a stupid question. ive searched for this and i didn't find any threads or posts on it. if there is though please let me know so i can reference them. i have a 86 gxl with gray interior, im looking to change it to black interior(carper, head liner, dash, all plastics). i thought it would be a straightforward thing seeing as the chassis is basically the same but someone told me that the s5 interior will not fit directly into my car is this true? any help would be appreciated.

There are quite a few threads with regard to interior swapping between S4 and S5 in the Second Gen Section. But to give you some specifics, there are a few minor differences which make such a swap a 'grouped' conversion. Half of my interior has been converted to black S5, so here is what I have noticed:
A prime example of this is the storage bins. They are indeed the same between S4 and S5, but the S4 bin frame is wider at the outer edges. This is because the S5 had automatic seat belts, which made the Lower B-pillar plastic trim a bit fatter in order to cover the motors. The rear carpet is different as well, in that it matches the dimensions of the bin frame. Hatch side carpets are slightly different in that the S5 has provisions for the hatch light (S4 is on the passenger side hatch strut).
A-pillar plastics are different too, due to the seat belts. The only exceptions to this rule are the 10AE and any Japan-spec car with black interior such as the infini II, III and IV.
As for the remainder, there aren't any significant differences that I am aware of. Dash is the same, carpet is too, headliner is the same, etc. But one thing to keep in mind is certain items on the dashboard were changed. Most notable is the cluster hood, as the switch mounts were altered along with how the switches were wired. If it were my car in question, I'd just use the S4 cluster hood and switches. Less headache that way and only a VERY sharp eye can tell the difference.
A simple way to tell if a part has changed is to look in the Parts Catalog. S4 parts generally have a FB0x prefix, while S5 has FC0x. Parts carried over use the older prefix.
