No I just don't trust other drivers and their cheap liability insurance.

When just a decent paint job alone costs $5,000 to $10,000 insurance companies will try to avoid paying full value. Make sure you get AGREED VALUE through a reputable company like Hagerty, Grundy, etc.

Not SOL... You'll just have to get another 7.

Its not like this is a super rare breed of car. (Just an interesting one.) $5k will buy 5 rolling 7's if you wait long enough. And through those 5 7's you'll be able to weld toghther one that isn't rusty.

I just thought maybe there was some law in some state or country that made people buy full coverage on an old sports car.

EDIT: oh and I doubt an impact will hurt the most important part of the car. The engine. Cause its so far away from the front of the bumper.

I've never paid more than $5-10 for a paint job. RATTLE CAN

Actually they are pretty rare. I think I've seen the type of "rolling 7" you are referring to, and they require a ton of work and parts to restore, potentially over $5k - $7k in parts alone. Many parts are no longer available at any price, so the only alternative is custom manufacturing them or trying to find parts in decent condition on another car.

It's theoretically possible to successfully paint a car with rattle cans, I have seen a show car that someone painted that way. It would probably take 20 - 30 cans and 100s of hours of work.

I'm forty in NJ & pay $84 yearly with American classic Ins for the RX.

I pay less than $200 for stupid full coverage on 2 bikes.

This will all change soon for me as I recently racked up 2 serious speeding tickets in 24hrs in my girls Honda.

$65.00 month liability USAA insurance 22 <--------CHEAP. I was paying 170 not two months ago for liability with progressive, but luckily being ex military I got the coverage.

Louisiana ranks number #2 on the highest insurance rates. -_____- We were #1 in 2010

They say its because of katrina, high settlement rates requiring $50,000 or less to not have to go in front of a jury..

I blame the idiot drivers.... Friday night and Saturday night are lit up with constant DUI's. If you don't live in the city you live in the country, and every highschool kid has to do 80 down the backroads in an 89 f-150. The cops set the same exact traps every single day on the same spot on the interstate. They even changed the speed limit to 75 but people still manage to do 95 right past them..... -___- I count the accidents I almost have every day. Blinkers are only used if you want to get cut off

28, male, paying $113/mo for comprehensive on the 2010 Mazda 6 and 2mil liability on the FB. When I only had the FB it was something like $28/mo. I was with Economical, now I'm with some tiny company in the middle of nowhere whose name I can't pronounce. My insurance broker figured it out. I switched away from economical when they insisted on me disclosing my yearly income to them. They said that their stats linked higher insurance claims to "certain income groups". I refused to disclose that info and got the heck out of there, despite probably being in the low risk income group. I just found it to be a shady practice.

Edit: forgot location is QC, Canada

When I called my insurance agent to add my fiancee to my policy (we're getting married in 2 weeks) I got a "bill" in the mail saying my insurance went down. Yeah, my insurance went DOWN by adding another driver.

Yeah, they figure that with two people sharing a car, each person will be driving the car less than they would if they owned it themselves. Your wife is likely considered to be much lower risk than you are (women are, for some reason) and so that brings the average down.

You driving 100% of the time is a higher risk to them than you driving 50% of the time and your low-risk wife driving the other 50% of the time. At least, that's the way their formulae work.

Also, I believe that married people are considered to be lower risk in general because they're more likely to have kids. People with kids in the car don't tend to drive as recklessly as young single males do.

Jon

I don't think you have to hesitate to pay for insurance, especially you’re young and driving a sport car, i believe that insurance policy is Important in Everyday Life. The core of any insurance plan is to offer you with protection. Providing protection and mitigating your risk is the simple motive of insurance. Making that small investment in any insurance plans, will enable you to be tension-free and offer security in advance, that’s why i insure my cars, real estates, my business with Money Expert they have excellent reputation.

I have my 85 insured through Progressive and it is super expensive. I'm 39 years old, married, haven't had an accident in 23 years, no violations; vehicle purpose is "weekend/enjoyment", and I have two other daily driver vehicles on the policy; how is $100/m for the mazda reasonable? I need to change but every time I talk to an insurance agent I come away thinking it's gonna be a pain and then don't.

I use AAA insurance. $185/ 6 months liability.
A driver with Progressive hit me. Progressive gave me $400 for repairs in 2007.
A driver with State Farm hit me the same. State Farm wanted to total out my for for $600 in 1998. So if you hit a bad *** and you have Progessive, you'll be ok. If you have State Farm, better buy a fire arm.

My **** head idiot neighbor hit me the same way. I offered $100 to call it square. He wouldn't pay. Took him to small claims for the profession body repair of $487. I won. He wouldn't pay. So $300 more in court costs forced him to pay. The idiot was out almost $800.

During the trial, the idiot could of said that I was hit there before, and he watched me repair it. His girlfriend interjected that my car was old, and it could be fixed with a part from an auto parts store. Judge said, "now tell me, what expertise do you have in autobody repair". PRICELESS ! !

I'll chime in on the newly-resurrected insurance thread.

39, male, married, no kids, rural, garage, homeowner (although my house is insured with a different company). We have a 2015 Outback (full coverage) and a 2017 Mazda3 (full coverage) on a Progressive policy along with the RX-7 (state minimum coverage). The only claims we have on our records are a minor fender bender (her, six years ago) and a car keying (me, eight years ago). My six-month premium on the RX-7 is $60. I store it six months out of the year, but I don't even bother stop/starting it because it's so cheap.

60 years old, 2007 F150, 2015 Forester and my 80 rx7. Work from home, no accidents or tickets to speak of and its $900 per year with Erie for all 3 cars; full coverage on the Forester and F150 ( I think) and minimum on the RX7.

Thinking of going with a collector insurer to get full coverage and avoid other insurance claims totally it out. Plus I don't think it will cost me any extra and may be cheaper.
