to many people see inital d and become instand drift experts.....
drift is fast.
not fast as real racing
drift looks cool
Racing IS cool

Ive been to the last 2 D1 events. its fun to watch
I love initial D. It is Very entertaining. I have EP 11 and 12 of the 4th stage and didnt pay for em..

search initial D 4th stage 12 eng on emule and you can find it from me and only me at the moment!! Its perfectly legal. its a fan sub and initial d isnt licensed by anyone for american sale so sharing is ok for now. YEE HAW.
and Initial D dvd's on ebay are not real versions and the subtitles suck!!
FANSUBBERS ROCK!

Its just another form of racing. Let the haters hate, its what they do. I myself like drifting and have been interested in it for the last 5 years.

I stopped reading after about 3 pages of bickering, but to answer the question regarding the AE86 vs. 1st-Gen.

I owned an '86 Corolla, SR5 model (carburated, ~80hp). It weighed less than 2500lbs. That is its main advantage: it is very light weight, and weight distribution is nearly 50/50. I've driven a 1st-gen, in mild autocross prep (shocks, springs, & Falken tires. no power mods). It's faster than the carburated Corolla for sure. I haven't driven a fuel-injected (4AGE motor) Corolla GT-S, but I imagine that the much lower center of gravity of the RX-7 will help offset the weight disadvantage. The steering feel of the AE86 is much better, due to its rack-and-pinion design. The 1st gen had a 'floaty' feel to it.

The AE86 sold in the US were NOT all equipped with LSD, not even all of the GT-S models. For more info about Toyotas, check out www.club4ag.com

I personally feel that the proper place for drifting is on rally stages, and nowhere else. If those D1 guys learned to drive rallycars, Japan might earn some more respect in international motorsports. Did anyone see Rhys Millen's rally-prepped Evo 5 at the Falken Drift Showoff in March '03? It was MUCH faster than the D1 competitors that were there for exhibition.
