can a 1st drift better than a ae86 without lsd

I own a 84 auto 12a I do just about anything with it but unfortunetly my skill as a drifter is still a novice. Just pro opinions plz. if two equally skilled drivers were both drift racing would a car such as mine mildly tunned without lsd have a chance against an ae 86 manual also mildly tuned tops 120 ponys each

Well, they're both great cars for drifting, but since yours is an auto, I can say that with truly equal drivers, with equal knowledge of the course (assuming we're talking about mountain drifting, not that poser crap that they do), the Corolla would win (having driven both , with rotaries).

You might want to take into consideration the fact that drifting is stupid. Why dont you take up figure skating instead, It'll save you some money.

If the corolla has 120-ish HP, and its a manual, and you say you have the same power through a slushbox, he will destroy you. Autos and rotaries just dont mix.

Alex, we didn't ask for an opinion on if drifting is good or bad. This will NOT turn into another "drift/don't drift" topic. That's just CHILDISH.

I haven't drifted the Corolla 'per-say.' More like took it cruising and broke it loose around a couple of little turns.

The Corolla has a 12A street ported with my RX 7's Racing Beat exhaust system. It's really a great little car, but it doesn't feel as. . . . thought out. . . . as the RX 7. You can just FEEL that the Corolla is a little econo-box that just so happens to be great for little sprint/touge/drift racing (mainly due to the way the body is built, in my uneducated opinion).

I have a collection of videos of me racing my 91 Ram (upgraded suspension, engine work done), a short sprint of the 83 RX 7 (as well as a couple of smoke videos of it) and the Corolla running my favorite DIRT road (with lots of fun twisties). All I need is a place to host them, and to dig them up from my computer!

2 alex , drifting is in fact is a sport where morons canot play because it take a level of control and monuverability to even pass a corrner . this technique was invented to give fr cars the ability to monuver a corner at the same speeds and recover better than awd cars. now to call this sport stupid is in itself incorect and the only thing more stupid than posting incorect posts would be smoking.

They're pretty closely matched. Not having driven a Corolla with the original Twin Cam engine, I can't tell you how IT would do, but I'm not seeing how it would be much different than with the 12A.

Performance-wise, the cars seem pretty damn equal (as far as body roll, ability to break traction, all that good stuff go), so it would almost come down to the driver.

It may also depend on how good the stock tranny for the Corrolla is geared. I heard that it is geared for rallying from the factory, so it may have an upper hand due to the gears.

Hey, jays83gsl,... I about the vids and hosting. I do video editing so I might find a server to host them if not on my website server. Let me talk to my friend to see if we can set up a site and host spot to host the vids. I will get back to you if I get any good news.

I'll give you art, but definatly not sport. There is no definate way with which to judge it. You'd might as well be judging two retards finger painting. Sure it takes precision and controll, but so does basket weaving. I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but taking the slowest possible way around a corner and trying to make it look pretty is a fad not a sport.

I'm sure it's lots of fun, but if you intend to take this hobby seriously you had better ditch that auto quick, or you will be making an *** out of your self (and all the real asian kids will laugh at you)

BTW, I'm under the assumption that all of the "AE 86" models of Corolla (with and without retracting headlights) had an LSD from the factory? In which case, he has much better control over his car, and he *will* beat you (supposing, of course, that he's also a 'novice' and he IS a 'he')

Alex if you could have proved me wrong you would have done so by now but instead like all other nay sayers to new sports you would wrather through opinions around like they were facts. so wrather than here you put up the same lame argument all night i will instead say this last thing unfortenatly the majority of the racing world disagrees with you and have been having international drift comps called d1s and i chalange u to take on any skill driver you wish in that comp and beat them using traditional cornering techniques , not going to happen so untill it dose your opinoins stay just that .

Did you just call drifting racing? Oh you troubled teen. If you are even suggesting that drifting around a corner is faster than braking, lineing and apexing, then you need to stop skipping your physics class, and stop talking out your ***.

You don't know what the **** you're talking about. But that's alright, you're just defending what you think is cool I guess.

Soo, untill you show me an F1 driver drifting around a track and winning the race, you can shut the **** up, and go dye your tips blond, and practice driving with your roller blades on.

Have a lovely night, stupid.

its still sad that most people in the U.S. only know about D1 and its show drift style which is where they only come to the assumtion of drift only being figure skating on wheels.

Speed drift and Show drift are to different things.while show drift goes around a corner in full slide mode its not for speed, using a speed drift technique for corners its to throw the vehicle in to the corner as fast as maintainably possible keeping as much speed in, through and out of the corner while pushing the cars forward angle to the best position possible for leaving the corner as straight as possible

minimize any excessive slides, keep them short and angle the vehicle for the best possible entrance and exit through corners.

Speed drift gets many of its roots and style from versions of Rally racing. when you can show me a WRC driver only using grip style racing and winning you can shut up too. rally runs in all road condition including asphalt wet or dry, snow, ice, dirt, mud etc.

and no im no damn internet bench racer who reads all his information from magazines, i used to run amature rally and ice racing.

and no matter what people say D1 is not racing but it is a good show of driver car control.
