Broke Crap

I was wondering if the oil temperature and engine temperature sensors can go for a while not working, or if it will mess up the car, cus both mine are broken but atm i have no money to fix them, does either have anyother use aside from just letting the driver know the temperatures ?

Well, you are taking a hell of a chance over about 20 bucks for a couple of Auto Zoo el chepo gauges to get you by untill you can repair the stock ones properly. Question. Do you know if it is the sensors or the gauges? A quick check of the gauges is easy. Get a friend to watch the gauges with the ignition on, NOT RUNNING, and pull the wire off the sensor. Give the wire a MOMENTARY ground to the block. The needle should jump. If that happens, the sensor is probably bad. Not the gauge.

DUHHHH. Like I said, you are really risking some serious damage. I really don't want to say, sure, it will be okay. And something breaks due to lack of oil pressure or running hot. It's your car. Do what you think would be the safe thing to do.

Just reconnect the wires to the sensors.

it answer your question...if your car is working fine no driving the car is not going to hurt it if its just the gauge that is fugged.........would i take the car on a long trip no but you can drive the car around long as you know its runing fine the best thing to do is drive to autozone and buy a sunpro gauge for a few bucks....

there is no vehicular problem with busted sensors, as the car doesnt use them (it uses more precise sensors mounted in the rad and water box)

but, if you didnt build and break in the motor by hand, you're taking a risk because you DONT KNOW the state of the motor, and thats what these people are warning you about.

personally: i run w/o the oil pressure gauge because i put in a 79 motor, which doesnt have a tap for one... i'll make one when i convert to a FMOC, when its warmer.

2nd....just plug them back in.The water temp and oil pressure senders are right next to each other under the oil filter. They each have their own style of plug so you cant mix them up.
No it doesnt hurt the engine to run without gauges, but it does hurt your awareness of the engine's condition. If a problem came up (which they always do with 20+year old cars)......youd have no idea there was a problem until the engine seizes up and your walking home...... and buying a new engine.....
